Wow, did he know it was going to be red? I have been babying one, 7' tall every year, for 8 years now, it is supposed to be a white one. Has NEVER bloomed, told you that you had a green thumb! Please tell me, what am I doing so wrong?

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Glory, thats an epiphyllum..nice red..night blooming cereus are white...about 7 species that are commonly called night blooming cereus. Rainbow gardens in Vista calif has about 300 kinds of these..they grow real well in Calif climate. Some get flowers up to 12 Inches across!.

Kyle,
Thanks...I'll remark the plant. Looks like the common name is "Epi"...correct?

Hibiscus,
This Epi is just a baby but if you want some I'll start you one...LMK. I don't do anything special to them...just water and feed.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Oh Glory, are we supposed to feed them? I haven't been doing that. I have a peach colored one that hasn't bloomed yet. Just got it last fall too.

Brugie, They are really fun to grow and there are 100's of hybrids out . I use those coco liner baskets with a very well draining soil.. Never let them dry out ... thou they can take a little dryness in November and December. Fertilize now in spring with 0-10-10 (no nitrogen) and after they are done flowering once again with 10-10-10 with minors.. Be careful they can become as addicting as Brugs! : )
John

Shirely,
Guess I have been feeding mine wrong...OOPS!!

John,
Could you give me the name of a fertizer that is 10-10-10 with minors....if not I'd end up using triple 10 on them. You are so correct...they are addictive too.

Glory, you are not doing anything wrong! LOOK at that big red bloom! : ) The advise I gave is what the professional growers out in California do and it has always worked for me... But there IS more than one way to skin a cat as the ole cliché goes..
I'm very lucky to have a fertilizer company located in Naples Florida that custom mixes anything you request......
I put Snow Cone in my front bed between two live oaks and it is on its way to suffer bondage ala Monika... I hope one day to show you a picture!

I have an epi from PJ that is peach. I haven't seen it bloom yet. Just got the start last year. I'm glad to know I should not be giving it nitrogen right now. Thanks for the info.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

I have seen thousands of plants of these at Rainbow Garden in Vista Calif. some had 12 inch wide flowers.I have Chrysocardium the plant can get 15 feet long and the leaves look like fern fronds...huge flower that is white with yellow sepals.

John,
I'm sure Snowcone will be very happy in its new home...it is such a very nice white Brug.

Kyle,
I really do hate to go to places like Rainbow just because I want one of everything. LOL

Glory....I know that tune!!!!LOL :-)

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Here ia a pic of the one I send Shirly, it is not just a night bloomer! The blooms last several days. Don't know it's name.

Shirley, does yours have many sprouts on it?? It may or may not bloom this year, it was small, but they grow pretty fast when they get started.

PJ, it has one new one that is long and two small ones coming out of it, plus the original part. That is really pretty. Thank you, thank you. Now I know what to look forward to.

Azalea, Thats a beauty!!!
Eclipse, Looked up your Chrysocardium, all i can say is WOW!
They all remind me of tropical water lilies, Think thats why I like them so :)

PJ, do I have that one??? (I have everything else you have, just wondered where it's hiding)

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Is that a hint!!!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

well, knowing you, I already do have it!!! what would you have tagged it?

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Azalea, that's gorgeous, think it will be in bloom at your swap? Would love to see one up close and personal!

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

I tagged it Peach Ceres. Viola, I can't remember when this thing blooms, but maybe!!

PJ,
That one is very pretty....I'll do some cuttings of mine in the fall.

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Glory, did I not give you one?? Can't rememeber, looks like yours is blooming in the day time too. I will bring you one the next time I see you (if I can remember). I ususally cut up some of the larger leaves into 2" sections, they root pretty easily. I may be cutting off blooms, don't know that much about them. Isn't it odd that some of the leaves are flat and some are triangular.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

hint hint hint :) not at the risk of blooms though

PJ,
That would be great....I also have a White Sky Vine for you...small but it's a start.
