An empty satellite dish ........

Olympia, WA

OK - container gardeners - what would you recommend? I know about making a gazebo roof from the dish - but that is not my intention. Can it be used for a bog type garden??? If so, what helpful hints might you have for me?

It was interesting to do a DG "search" for satellite dish - and I came upon some wonderful threads from the past - about using "junque" in the garden setting!

I have unending space available for this dish - and I think I have located the right spot - but before I do a lot of work on preparation and such, I would appreciate the collective wisdom from the group.

Thank you so much!

vicki.....a bog garden is a super idea....I was thinking a water garden then I realized the middle of the dish has a hole in it????? I've seen once a different use of this object....and that was to paint it black, then sit it up at the back of container plants as a heat reflector to encourage a micro-climate for the plants! E.

My fil has taken a black one and is using it as a shallow pond. No plants in it, just around it and a fountain/waterfall going down into it. He has river rocks and some slate in it and some small catfish (4"). Looks way better than I thought it would.

These are all great ideas - and thanks so much!!!! Mine doesn't have a hole - and holds water. Neighbor tried to do fish in it, but his cat ate the fish and the sun got the water too warm ....what its destination is going to be now is still open for consideration and suggestions!

Thanks so much!!!!!

I have no experience with bog gardens but if the dish holds water it should work. If you do use it for a bog garden I hope you will keep us informed on your progress!

wannadanc I know this is a old thread, but did you do your dish as a bog garden? We made a bird bath out of ours, and the birds just love it.

Dig a hole and leave the rim showing. Fill with good soil. I added gravel to the very bottom.
