I kinna sorta hope to have a variety of lotus next season, and cant tell one dried florist pod from another. I dont have much to offer in the way of trade, but would be glad to send an sase with some extra stamps tucked in for your own sase adventures if anyone is feeling generous? thanks again for the tip Eclipse. Cheryl
ok -does anyone save these?
I saved mine once. The following sping I tried to nick them for planting and found out they were hollow. I am going to try again and hope that I have better luck.
I just germainted some lotus lutea seeds that I purchased. I thought I was never gonna be able to nick the cast iron seed coats. Once I did they sprouted in under a week.
thanks poppysue----got some extra rough sandpaper n nicked mine--been changin water everyday but so far after ummm *counts fingers* 5 days no sign of a sprout. :S crossin my fingers. cheryl
did you file until you saw white? Also, you can tell if they are viable if they sink. The ones that float are not any good.
You have to keep your water really warm also for them to sprout and grow for you.
I nicked and soaked 5 and within a week all 5 came up, I think they were "american" lotus, can't remember, have it written down somewhere in my book.
