Need some dog advice - Name that breed mix

Hi,

Meet Shade, Shay for short. My family and i got him from a rescue shelter about 9 months ago, He will be 2 years old this month (we think)
The shelter told us that he is a chow mix - I really would like to know what others see in him, and would love the feedback.
He is loyal, loving, smart and always looking to please, has to be with people. Loves the snow, kids and people. Not crazy about the summer heat, and does not like other dogs. Squirrels drive him nuts. Will not break the habit of hunting and looking for squirrels. His coat is thick, soft slightly wavy, with long feathers on his legs and tail like a golden retriever. He also has webbed toes. A spotted tongue. thick main like a chow, wide set brown eyes, thick coat of hair on his ears and his head. Shay weighs about 65lbs.
I think he is either part Newf and Chow, or part black lab and chow.
