Credit Card Fraud

Seb,
Sorry to hear of the fraud against you. I used to work for a major UK bank and am only too well aware of the perils of giving out a credit card numbers etc.. Despite my former employ, I rarely, if ever, buy over the net (or phone) using my credit card. You may think that puts me at a disadvantage when buying stuff, but it doesnt. I work on the simple principle that if the shop wants my business, it has to accept MY way of paying for it (cash, cheque or whatever).
Good shopping,
El Tel
I have had my check card used by someone else today. The person used my money to purchase yahoo phonecard. I suspect it may be the same person. I closed my account immidiately after 4 hours since his/her last purchase. S/he also purchased yahoo wallet to enjoy secure online shopping.
I was so upset and didnt know what to do, and came up to your post. I am glad that your bank covers $1500, and I am sorry that you had to go through the emotional distress. I wish that we could do something to stop this kind of people from stealing.
My,
how scary. How did you discover that your account was being used? Im sure early detection is very important..
Joe
Hey Katy; Sorry to hear your situation. Never use a Debit Card for on-line purchases!! Also, never order anything from a un-secured site!! Internet crime has went up 40% so far this year. You may want to call the three major Credit Card reporting agencies to make sure this person has not taken out any loans under your name. Good luck. Bruce.
Need to contact Equifax, Trans union, experian fraud dept in yur area. You can also make statement on yur credit bureau, ie " DO NOT GRANT Credit until I've been contacted"
Grrr!...I just hate thieves! I hope they catch them and...well, I can't say what I like to happen to them ;). I just hope they get caught and get the severe punishment they deserve. Sorry that happened to you PostmanSeb.
If I were you, I'd research the thieves and get as much info as possible...call every authority that will help and publish (in public) any info you find about the losers. It's good that you told us...and I think you definitely SHOULD post (everywhere you can) the name of the culprit's company (as long as you know for sure which one it was). You wouldn't want anyone else to get scammed like you did.
You might want to call the post office and get the mail fraud aspect in the works too. Prosecute them in every way you can.
I am so sorry that this happened to you. I never give my card number over the web. I print out the "shopping cart" order form and mail it with a money order. Since the thieves learned to wash the ink off checks and rewrite them for whatever they want, I'm afraid to send a personal check!
My mom is now in a fight with telecheck because someone got her check routing numbers and has made their own checks with her numbers on them. They have done some damage. My mom is 72, and can't write a check hardly anywhere now. Telecheck won't let merchants take her checks. My mom has never done anything wrong in her whole life, and now this. We had to close her account and open a new one. She can't understand this, she had this account for 50 years.
