I started over 300 seeds already and more soaking.Just harvested another pod tonight..Valley Sunshine X Jean Pasko.Valley sunshine looked exactly like Jean pasko so I crossed them to see if its the same plant..but nope I got fertile seeds. So guess we need some more research.Inca Sun is blooming again in the dark in the basement.
I can't believe I'm doin this..
isn't it grand! LOL!! started more today myself, I'm hooked too.

Kyle- will you plant them out at your house or at work? Inca Sun sure sounds like a winner! Poor thing, blooming in the basement like that! When will you bring it out of the basement? Can't wait to see some of your results!

Kyle, I am not going to feel sorry for you LOL!
Someone is going to be busy, busy, busy! Inca Sun is a beauty!
Yikes! I'll have to give away most of my seeds cause I don't think I could deal with the stress! I'm looking forward to seeing some of your crosses Kyle!
Great guns Kyle!!!! I cant wait to see your mew babies - so be sure to post when they bloom! I will be looking forward to seeing everyone's new creations. I dont think I will be growing anything this year due to my move across the world, the timing is off. But just you wait till next year!!!
300 Seeds?! Wow! Love watching them develop, but where, oh where are you going to fit them all! You must have a lot of land.
Here's wishing you blue skies, a sharp shovel, and soft fertile dirt to dig in!
Mary
Kyle, please watch your camera...it must be ok all the summer.
We want to see the first flowers as soon as possible.
Ok...heres a few answers to all these questions. I will try growing out about 700 or so seedlings this year.I will take some to work for the display beds..thats where Inca Moon showed up as a seedling . Out of 100 seedlings about 8 might warrant naming and further growing.Everyone here must remember we can't keep every seedling that blooms. All must be culled and only keep those that fit the required criteria.Early and frequent bloom, heat resistance, insect resistance, size of blooms, and all around qualities. Those that bloom very little, or can't stand wind or heat should be destroyed..not traded or sold...we dilute our gene pool by keeping those. The most beautiful orchid in the world is worthless if it only has one flower once a year.See where this is going? :-) And yes if you hybridize you should know the parentage of both flowers you are crossing(if you can) then set up a plan for what you want to accomplish.Cross like Monika suggests..same colors together to increase the hues of the flowers...don't cross white to colors as white is the predominant color of wild brugs.Cross white to white, pink to pink..etc. I have crossed Inca Sun X Ver orange, Inca Sun X Dr Suess, etc.Gold to orange or orange to orange.Except when trying for double colored plants. Then white double X whatever color will help accomplish this. Does this make sense?? LOL
Kyle, all I can say is: Thank you for these honest words!!!
Greetings
Ludger
*lol* Yes in deed ... and if a colored are crossed to a white double with the double as a mother and all the seedlings turn out to be white, the double seedlings can be used in a new attemt that will bring you closer to the apperance that you go for. A double white can be + white - white, but the offspring will be + white - colored and if you can find a colored pollen donor with + color - color that should be it. I wish it was as easy as it sounds, but the trick is to find the colored brugs that are + color - color as many of them have turned out to be + white + white + white -color - white *lol*
Y'all got my head spinning; just too much of a "newbie" to understand all this. But it is very exciting!

Kyle, words of wisdom we should really ponder. I have not tried to hybridize yet, but when I do, I will follow your lead. You really have a way of putting things in perspective, and explaining in one or two words why it is important. I had not thought about it as you put it, but once I read your post it made so much sense. As I said, words to live by if one is going to hybridize. Thank you for informing the uninformed (newbies like me..)
Tonny, it's good to see you - You have been missed :)
TLC,
Its easy. I write about the Brugmansia flowers genetical code. I don`t know much about it, but I use + for the phenotypes (the way the flower appear to us) and - for the genotype (the phenotypes that are hidden from our view, but are brought on to the offspring). For eksample a double white is + white and if the whiote is brought on to its offspring its also - white. If it is white and bring on yellow to its offspring its + white - yellow and so on. Many hybrids are + colored, but - white. That is in a cross the offspring of the colored Brugmansia will mostly be white.
Hi Pebble, Its good to see you too :D Do you still have the CDW in bloom? I just loved to see those pictures.
Thank you for the explanation, Tonny!
So happy to have you back; you add so much to DG.
TLC
Tonny, yes, I am getting the second flush, but I am afraid I wont be here to see them :( I will be away for 3 weeks.
Kyle,
Do you have a picture of Valley Sunshine?
Glory..its on the Valley Grow site.Didn't look like the plant I got from him. :-(
