My lotus have arrived!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

I placed my lotus order in June for the following gardening season. Yesterday they came! YEAH.....I recd four really nice size, well packed tubers from ewaterlily.com/waterplants.com! They have the best prices I've found on water plants. I'm SO excited. I can't wait to see them grow. I like the foliage on the lotus as much as I like the flowers. So any sign of growth is good for me! Anyone else have water plants coming or in yet?

Cool!!! Which ones did you get? I traded for a few this spring. If I do well with them I *might* get a few new ones for next year. I've got 2 in the pond, the pink one badseed got for us and a small one, chawan basu. They are up a couple of inches already. I've got 2 others that I'm growing in "barrels" on the deck. I've got them in the greenhouse for another week or two before I put them out. One is up about 6 inches. Of course, it won't be easy trying to get those barrels from the greenhouse to the deck, LOL.

I put most of the plants for the pond that were overwintered in the greenhouse out yesterday to start hardening off.

My lilies have leaves up a couple inches and the cattails are up.

I buy locally unless it's something that I can't find. I do want to make a few trades this spring but I am not sure what I have. Our stuff comes up late in zone 5, a few things are just now budding.

I've ordered from waterplants.com for a couple of years and have not been disapointed. I worked at a nursery and we tried a lot of different suppliers. There stuff is just as nice as the big buck nurseries.

jody, yours are up already! That's great. Hopefully mine won't be far behind.
branka, the only ones we have local will run about 65.00 potted up. Nothing is sold bare root around here. If they were a resonable price, I would purchase local. As fast as these multiply, I can't justify spending that kind of money.

This is what I purchased:
CHINESE DOUBLE ROSE
MOMO BOTAN
XIANEA- this is a great minature one for very small pots, I've grown this one for years
? bowl lotus (from the mix)

I love ewaterlily.com. Sandy, the owner along with Victor are great with their customers. I have ordered from them for 2 years now with nothing but great results. I am at the point now that when i call, she knows my voice. LOL. I have placed a very large order with her this year and they are begining to be shipped this monday. I ordered at least 10 lotus from her along with many hardy and tropical waterlilies.

You find so many other dealers are not considerate with their customers. But I have found they really do care. It is a Mom/Pop type of buisness and customers always come first in thier views. Plus they sell wholesale to everyone. Their lotus run just under 15.00 each. That is an excellent price. They key is to order in the fall or late winter in order to get in line for them. They sell out quickly. I started placing my order last september for this year on the lotus. But now is a great time to start ordering the tropical and hardy lilies. They ship very healthy looking plants. I give them 3 thumbs up (If I had an extra hand). LOL.

Thank you for your post Datdog. I ordered a lotus from Waterlily/Waterplants.com and it is due to arrive the last week of this month. I'm glad to hear the plants they mail are high quality. I have never ordered water plants over the net....only at pond/water plant nurseries.......and they are so much more reasonable at Waterlily/Waterplants.

I'm so encouraged after reading all of your glowing reports. And the company has such a wide selection and the office help is so pleasant to deal with. I'm sold on Waterlily/Waterplants.

How small a container will the Xianea be happy with?

New Albany, MS(Zone 7a)

Should be able to grow in a 12 inch pot. But the larger the pot, the less you will have to divide it. You will probably have to divide it this next early spring if it grows a good bit this summer in a 12 inch pot.

OOOH!! I'm going to get one then, I need to get one! I'm going to dig a pond this year all by myself, but I can't wait that long for water flowers so a few containers sounds like a good way to start.

I say go for it! Carena I have mine in a VERY small pot (I'll snap a picture later) It does wonderful all summer and I divide it every two years or when the blooms start to decrease.
Since the pot I keep it in is ceramic I have to winter it over in the garage.

Here is a picture of a couple of the tubs. The blue tub holds Xianea.

blue tub up close. You can tell the size of the tub by the size of my hand.
