I have 2 cups of seeds for Hyacinth Bean Vine!

Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm a newbie to the site, so I hope I am doing this right! I was so enthusiastic about collecting my seeds from my Hyacinth Bean Vine (covered a whole 15' fence), now I realize I can never use them all. Who wants some and how many? I will also include a couple of seeds from the white flowering one too.

Also, how do I send them? Thanks!

Wow, that sure is a sight for sore eyes! I got some seeds from a neighbor last fall and her plants weren't nearly as pretty as that. Hope my seedlings grow up to look like yours :).

Jules, I just posted Hyacinth Bean Vine to the plants database. Would you add this picture? I don't have one. Also, I would like about an ounce of the seeds. I have some perennial hibicus seed and some tall purple cleome (spider flower). If you want to do this, all we do is mail to each other, no postage due from the other one.

Thanks branka!

I planted them in my vegetable garden that was next to my fence. So it had great soil and plenty of fertilizer. It grew up the fence and over, and flowered beautifully by late summer.

jules,I would be interested in a small amount of them.
You have mail.:0)

woodspirit1,

1 ounce of seeds is approx. 100 seeds!!! Do you really need that much? Please let me know.

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

LOl, I didn't realize. It sounds like about 1/4 ounce would work. Do you want either the cleome seed or the purple foxglove seed?

Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL I figured you didn't realize the size of these seeds. Please see the new picture I posted to the Plant Database.
I'd be happy to receive any seeds you'd like to share.

Hi jules_jewel. I don't need any but just wanted to add this vine will do fine in part shade too. I finally shelled all mine out the other day so if you run out I have some I would be glad to share also. I would love some of the white if you have enough to share . Check my trade list. I had tried them last year and we had the big drought and they bit the dust before I even saw a bloom.

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

You can always eat them!! They are also called Jefferson Beans because Thomas Jefferson grew them for food! They are great producers!! Don't know if you eat the pretty purple pods before they ripen, or wait til they dry. probably either way would work. I have a baggie full of them too, been thinking about trying some just for fun!!

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

It's amazing all the plants that Thomas Jefferson found, tried at Monticello and introduced to the US. I don't know if he actually went to different areas and collected himself or if he had people help him do that. There are many introductions from Mexico and South America. I think more could be learned on Monticello's website.

The new blooms are sweet and great on salads too!

Oh..how beautifull. Please can I have some and also some of the white, please...? I live in the Netherlands though. You can find my tradelist if you click my name.

Thanks.

jules, did you get my e-mail?

Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi everyone! Sorry about the delay.

All who have sent me emails requesting seeds ... you have mail!

I've decided that I will not ask for seeds in trade with anyone at this time, but will be happy to send you the Hyacinth seeds (purple & white) as long as you send me a SASE (i.e. bubble mailer, postage paid and a packet to put them in?) or whatever you want. Let me know how many seeds you'd like. I have, as I said, 2 cups of purple and approx. 25 seeds of the white variety which I will share equally with everyone.

As you can see in the photo, the white flowering seed is brown and the purple flowering one is black.

I'm very new to this site. (Just joined today.) Do you have any purple flower seeds left?

First, let me make sure they'll grow here. I'm in NYC and have a partly shady roof garden. I believe I'm Zone 6b. Will they work?

Many thanks.

Just a reminder to those who have requested seeds:

Please send me a SASE (i.e. bubble mailer, postage paid and a packet to put them in?) or whatever you want. Let me know how many seeds you'd like. I have, as I said, 2 cups of purple and approx. 45 (revised #) seeds of the white variety which I will share equally with everyone. Just let me know which ones you need.

I have already sent out seeds to: Sue_WA, Evert, Azalea, & woodspirit1, and have received very nice seeds in return. Thank you all! For those who have also responded recently, your packets are ready to be mailed. Thanks~
