Wisteria

Lufkin, TX

Does wisteria come in red too? I am also looking for seeds of the purple wisteria and seeds for the white. If it comes in red, then I am looking for them too.

I've always heard that they take years to bloom when you start off with seeds. Years and years before they bloom! I have never grown them from seed, but I did try my hand at rooting some cuttings. The cuttings done alot better(used rooting powder) In fact I rooted about 25 cuttings for a man and he bought everyone of them from me. But that was about 4 years ago when I worked at a Nursery.
Maybe if you can find someone around your town that has it growing, they might give you some cuttings. I think you'd get blooms alot sooner that way.
Sorry I don't have seeds to help ya out.

I'm growing some wisteria seeds right now!!! They are about 4 inches tall. I too heard that they take forever to get big enough to bloom.I'm not sure what color my babies are gonna be. They were easy to start, I just soaked the seeds for about a day then planted them.It was about 2 weeks before I saw some sprouts.Let me know how it goes for you.

Here in wisconsin they make seeds pods starting in Sept., but I harvested the pods about late november. This was from a friends vine which was very old and big.

I have wisteria seed in beautiful dark purple if you would be interested. these seed are different than others I have seen, most are similar in size and shape of a dime. Mine are more like a smaller kidney bean in shape. They are fresh and ready to go! I started 6 of them, didn't even soak them, and within 3 days there were sprouts, so give me a shout if you still want to try from seed.

Not only do they take a long time (7-10 years???) to bloom, but they have less blooms too. The named varieties are cultivars of tried and true good bloming varieties. If you aren't worried about those problems, you might wind up with something great from seed too. Hope you have A LOT of space!
