Have you had this problem?

N.C. Mts., NC(Zone 6b)

I had my brug cuttings upstairs under grow lights, then we got our Babe, (our darling Boxer Pup) Had to watch her like a hawk. She would try too grab a bite of the leaves as she walked by. I have some heat on the back porch so I put the brugs there. My DH thinks brugs & puppies don't go together. Now I'm worried about when it gets warm and I set them in the ground, how to keep the pup away from them. It's 25 degrees and 6 inches of snow now, so it will be a while before I set them out. How have you solved this problem? I did buy some Bitter Apple. Here is a picture of my Babe

If she is just a puppy, a few good, but stern "NO"s should teach her pretty quickly. She is a cutie. At least she won't be lifting a leg to do another kind of damage. :-)

This is where Jeanne comes in. She has a Boxer too. I have cats and a dog, no problem.

Thanks so much Kell.I feel better now. I can " have my cake and eat it too" I'm a happer camper now, I love my Babe and my Brugs. Sent the site to my DH's computer. I will still keep a close watch on her. Thanks again.

Lizh, just keep her away from the brugs for a while. And let her know she can't eat them. They don't taste very good so I doubt she'll eat them.

She is a boxer so she's stubborn but very smart and will want to please you. Lots of plants in the garden are poisoness, dogs and other animals are pretty smart about which ones to eat.

Oscar smells the brug flowers but only tries to eat the roses. Here's a picture of my friend Doris with Oscar.

lizh. . what an adorable puppy and I know that you can teach her to stay away from the brugs.

Jeanne . .Oscar looks so sweet and cuddly.

Brugcrazy, Oscar is so sweet looking, How old is he? They are so lovable. I belive Babe is more stubborn than any of the boxers we have had. We have only had one male. If I live to get another one, I won't have the ears clipped.

You've got mail. It's a long story with Oscar.

What a face Oscar has.......... hard not to love!

So Jeanne, are those all your own paintings on the wall? I wish I could see them better! I still think of the one of the brug you did that was exceptional! You are so talented!

Those ones aren't mine, they're artists I know. But there are lots of mine on other walls in the livingroom, just not in that picture.

Well, what good does that do me Jeanne...........if they are out of sight??? LOL

this might sound harsh, but a watergun with vinegar will do the trick----the first time you catch your puppy around your plants, shoot her near her nose and mouth, then squirt a little---around your plant (not on it)with a sharp NO!! you might have to repeat this lesson a few times, but they dont like the smell, and the scent around the plants reinforces the lesson. (please dont call animal control on me?)

playsndirt is right. I had a couple of breeds of dogs for show at one time. The vinegar/water squirt gun helped for deterrants but I also sprinkle pepper on my plants to deter neighborhood dogs from digging. It deters the squirrels too, but you have to replace it once in awhile. Firmness and consistancy works with puppies just like it does with children. Don't give in because he's sweet. A firm "NO" works good. They also don't like being isolated because they have been naughty, just like sending a child to their room. You could isolate him in the bathroom, after saying NO if he repeats anything that he has been told NO before.

Hey,lizh, now that you have her in obedience school maybe the trainer will let you bring your Brugs with her and go from there...haha Bless her little heart...Babe's and yours...I know from your past experiences THIS DOG is more active than ANY you guys have ever had!!!~! I'm off to get water guns tomorrow. Should I add water to the vinegar? I don't have a good aim, will vinegar permanently hurt her eyes? she has pulled up, 3 times, a little poney tail grass I transplanted. This last time I put it in a pot. I had sprayed bitter apple on it but then it snowed. Almost all the snow gone today.
Ok MaryK, you may be a little right. ( smarty) I guess I am slowing down. LOL
