Hi Dennis-taylor

i have 3 cherry trees planted and they are doing great. The are the Evans cherry from T&T Seeds. i got them 3 years ago, they were only about 16" when i got them and they are now around 5' and should produce this year. Also they are self polinating. We have weather that goes to -40.
Hope this helps some.
Have a great day!

Thanks. I see you are Z 3a. The tags seem to all say Z 5. I'll look for that variety. Actually I think I saw it yesterday. I wanted to grow stella but the book said it drops buds in the cold.
Anyone elses favourite cold hardy fruits?

I would think in your zone Dennis, you could grow just about anything. Apricots, plums, pears, apples, cherries, peaches, etc. In zone 5 we can grow all of them. Why do they have you in Zone 8a if it gets that cold? -30 C is colder than we normally get her in zone 5.

Hi Dennis. I also have the Evans cherry. I bought it last year as a 2 yr old bare root from Sprout Farms in Bon Accord, AB. I was really amazed at the size of the cherry tree when I
rec'd it as it was at least 3' tall. Excellent rootstock. They are listed as being hardy to zone 2a. Rec'd this year's price list & it shows the range for their cherries anywhere from zone 1 to zone 3. I am anxiously awaiting spring to see how it makes out but I'm sure it will be fine.

Check out the website & you will find apricots, plums & cherry plums as well as many other things.

Thanks Broots, maybe there will be more trees for me there! I now have 13 fruit trees, just need 2-3 more!!
Brugie, I am looking for land in a colder area. I think it will be Z6, but if I am in on the shadier side of the valley it may be even colder. I just want to be prepared. I think my Cox orange pippin apple may not survive, also the gravanstein. My book isn't the best, but suggests those for California with long and warm seasons.
Thanks!
