Which is better for flowering bush or tree

Waco, TX(Zone 8b)

I have a Charles Grimaldi that I cut back right above the ground this winter. Now it has about eight spouts on it anywhere between 2 to 5 inches tall. What is better, let it make a big bush or to get rid of the smaller spouts and make it into a tree form? Also which flowers better or does it make a difference at all?

I like some of each. I think the flowers show up more on the tree, but bush brugs are nice and have their place too.

Thanks Brugie, I still learning about brugs. I got hooked on them when I lived near Houston and that was when I saw my first brugmansia. I just couldn't get over how big and beautiful they were. The only problem now that I live in Waco,Tx. there is only two nurseries that has any. They both only carry the Charles Grimaldi and a small amount at that.

Clayton, I found that the easiest way for me to make a tree was to let the sprouts grow up and then when one was tall enought I cut it off, put it in wet soil in the shade and it will root. CG's are not fussy!

I like single trunk trees the best for me for I do not have the room for huge bushes. Though you can have both if you just cut off one of the sprouts when it gets tall. I find my trunk below the Y, keeps growing even if it has Yed. Just make sure you cut one that has a high Y if it has Yed to ensure a nice tall tree.

here is a pic of my CG tree.

Thanks Kell, I appreciate the advice.I hope my turns out as good as yours. Mine last summer at the most only had about ten blooms at one time. I don't think I was feeding it enough. What do you feed you brugs with.

WOW Kell nice Grimaldi, for such a young one!

Thanks Dennis. This year the trunk is even thicker! can't wait for it to get going!

Oh it will Clayton. CGs are easy and oh so pretty!!! I think also when you have just one trunk it puts all its energy into it and makes for a better show.

I was not as good with fertilizing as I should have been, but I am big on miracle grow foliar feed. Maybe once every month. I would spritz it with VF-11 with a hand pump every week or 2. I probably put a handful of Peters on the soil every once in while.

Thanks again Kell, I will wait to let one of sprouts get big enough to cut and then to root it and turn it into a tree form. I will also try the fertilizers you said to use.
