Blue Sky Vine

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Seems I have lost all but one of the cuttings I started last fall. I am embaressed because I had promised a rooted cutting to another DG'er. I really hate to give up the only one I have at this point, but a promise is a promise. Please help with cuttings or seeds. Thanks so much

What is blue sky vine?

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

LOl - Not very sucessfuly!!! I just made seceral cuttings and put them in a damp mixture of perlite, sand and peat. They are slow to root. I did have most of them going well, then last winter my heater went out in the gh so I lost most of them. Tig has even rooted some with just a large leaf, it does take several weeks tho. My one little survivor only has 2 med sized leaves at the moment. Tig says that she even had some to root from leaves sent to her, but she has traded them away.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

well, I kept one, gave you one and lost the other:)
but if you take a leaf off the vine, keep the little part that connects them (don't ask me to remember what you call things:)
stick that part in the soil, and keep damp but not too wet. It takes a while and you think that it's never going to take. But after you know there are roots (because it never dies) give it some good light, a little food and it will put up a vine. It's really cool, I never thought it would work.

PJ,
I still have that small White Sky Vine here for you...do you want me to take it to the FL swap and tiG can bring it to you? LMK

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

I lost mine also.

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Oh yes Glory - that would be very nice!! I have been off-line since yesterday afternoon, had a bad storm. It would look pretty mixed with the blue. The blue one was the one I have promised tho.

Thanks a bunch.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

didn't know there was a white sky vine!!! PJ, you'll have to start me one:)

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

I'll sure try!

Woodburn, OR(Zone 8a)

this is another one of those beautiful but elusive vines! I've found it's almost impossible to locate sources for seeds, but I'm working on it, will post when I find them!detective caren is on the case..............or should I say defective?

Mcallen, TX(Zone 8a)

What is the latin name for this plant? or a foto possibly?

Thanks, lavanda

Just noticed Cala is selling rooted cuttings in her Scif store. I've been trying to locate another since mine didn't make it over the winter.

Carena,

I'm not sure about these two places since I didn't dig in very far, but you might find the seeds here.

If you can't get a plant from Susie, you might contact PlanterRik. I read that he will root them if you write and ask. He is always ready for a good trade.

I found some in other colors, but I'm crazy about the blue, I'm shy about begging on DG, so I usually try to find an affordable online source if I can, and yes I'm insane, but it's kind of fun to try to track things down, like a rare seed treasure hunt!! Thanks for the planter rik tip, if I get desperate enough, I'm not above pleading and bribery. Jungle seeds didn't seem too thrilled about sending to the US, I guess they've had some product seized, so I'm still on the hunt.... I'm going to have fun looking through all the goodies on the second link! thanks!!

Lavanda - this is what I am looking for!

Thanks.

Mount Angel, OR(Zone 8a)

Caren, I bought a Blue Sky Vine from Al's there in Woodburn two springs ago. Kartusz Exotics. com is a source for these too.

Woodburn, OR(Zone 8a)

Thanks! I'll check at Al's the next time I'm there.
I found a few places on the internet that sell them in 2" pots for about $6.00.
3 varieties that I think are so beautiful:

thunbergia grandiflora
thunbergia battiscombei
thunbergia mysorensis

Mount Angel, OR(Zone 8a)

They might not get them in till a little later, but I would sure ask.

Mcallen, TX(Zone 8a)

TiG - it is a petiole.

Hugs, Lavanda

I know the word, just can't ever remember how to spell it when I need it, so .... LOL!!! thanks

Ellabell, GA(Zone 8a)

I let mine die on purpose over the winter. I wasn't that impressed with it. Too much vine and leaves compared to the flowers, and the plant ran over everything in it's path.

I know that it is easier to root any Thunbergia if you cut into the bottom of the cutting. If you think of the bottom of the cutting as an O then cut a X in to it about a 1/4" deep (hard to explain).
The roots comes out of the bottom of the cut and the X gives it more area to grow roots.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks for that information Paintedlady. I've been waiting for some time for a jar full of Thunbergia Battiscombei to root. They are calloused, but the roots are taking forever. Next time I'll do them your way. I too was not impressed with the Blue Sky Vine. Here it was all vine and very little flower. I let mine go a couple of years ago. I also need to say that mine thought it was supposed to bloom just about at frost time. Too Late!!
