I am looking for luffa seeds. I haved birdhouse gourd and/or pomegranate seeds to trade.

I grew luffa for the first time last year and have some plants started for this year. Does anyone have advice on when to pick the squash and how to cure them for luffas?

Sorry it took so long to get back,I could not find the papers with intructions that I had,if memory serves me,the ends are cut to dry and shake the seeds out,then they are peeled and soaked in a slight bleach /water solution,to remove discoloration and soften them,if all the seeds come out during soaking,they can be done in the washer.
I have grown them three times,first I got 2 goards,the next year,I had ants on them,eating the blooms,really more like girdling them and drinking the sap,the third I did not get them to bloom.;(
I have one going this year,will hope to be able to tell of better success.

Thanks for the info. My seedlings are looking healthy and if the weather holds I will plant them out next week. I am sorry for your bad luck with them; but it makes me feel a little better for my poor start.

I have one baby I got at the swap,we'll see,I feel lucky this year!I love luffas for everything!washing my truck to washing me,LOL!
