Those are gorgeous. I have seen them in catalogs and always thought about getting some but haven't. I will now!
Kelli, what an absolutely lovely photo and the oval shape just sets the bloom off. I have never grown that Black Calla, the callas that I have are the ordinary, common ?? kind. I must put them in a flat of potting mix tomorrow so they will start to grow. Great picture. Donna
Thank you.
The common name might be black calla, but it isn't a true calla (Zantedeschia aethiopica). The two bloom at the same time, though, at least at my house. The white callas will not go dormant if the weather does not get too hot, but the Arum palaestinum will go dormant in the summer regardless. This is under southern California conditions, where summer is the challenging season, not winter. How they behave in other climates, I do not know.
The scientific name is Arum palaestinum. I recently dug up a tuber (thinking it would be small but turned out to be bigger than a softball). I have quite a lot of seeds as well, if anyone wants some feel free to email me and ill see what i can do. My email is mudwasp_@hotmail.com
hmmm... black and white Callas planted in the same place... what a great idea!
