Need suggestions on fertilizer meter jar

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

I have had 3 Miracle grow fertilizer jars that you attach to your hose and ever blasted one of them leaks where the hose goes on. I know it's not my hose, cause it doesn't leak when I put anything else on it. What I would like are suggestions of a good "something" like that that attaches to the hose and doesn't leak like a sieve. I would imagine that all you people use something like that, I know I am not fond of fertilizing my brugs by filling pails. At least not now, when they don't need quite as much as in the summer. I will be going to a couple of big garden centers next Friday, so any input on one of these things (whatever they're called) would be appreciated. TIA.

All 3 leaked?? Wow! Are you sure there was a gasket (washer) in there where you screw the hose into?

Hope you were able to take those leaky ones back for a refund.

Anna, everyone I've ever bought has done the same thing. Last year I got two different brands hoping for better news. I had good luck with the one from Peters. This year I'm going to draw my water up for it to sit a day and warm up so I will be using buckets anyway (brugs like warm water, and ours is cold). I got tired of getting soaked and seeing the blue stuff in a puddle at my feet.

Anna Z There are these things nurseries sell here that are called brass siphon mixer. You put water and fertilizer it a bucket--then run it thru the attachment. Works for larger areas. Do a search for it-- it should come up. I think www.rosemania.com has it.

Hi Anna...The little part of the feeder that connects to your hose actually unscrews...if it gets loose it'll leak. Disconnect the hose part and give the sticky-out green part a tighten...if it still leaks, try putting a big elastic band around the Sticky-out green part LOL and attach the hose again!

Best of luck,

Anna do like I did throw them out and buy a bag of osmocot and broadcast it by hand on you burgs

Try putting a 'coupler' or 'quick disconnect' end on the jar to hose connection site but wrap the threads on the male end of the coupler first with teflon plumer's tape. This may seal the leaks if they are due to a poor connection, yet enable you to use it time after time without having to reapply the tape if you relase the hose and not the coupler each time.

As desert_rose mentioned above, try the brass fertilizer syphon mixer. I bought one last year and it works great...
It is designed to siphon from a bucket of concentrated solution filled with 16 times the recommended rate of the   product for each gallon of water. As the water from
the faucet passes over the siphon, it dilutes the concentrate 16 times. It came with complete instructions, and I used it with a covered 5 gal plastic bucket. I used it for watering by hand and with a sprinkler. Here's a link where it is available for about $15

I will check at the garden center when I go up there next week. Thanks for all the info.
