I picked up this Red Attraction at Walmart tonight for $4.88. I wasn't expecting much, was I ever surprised when I opened the box. If you need lilies and you don't mind common ones, this is a great price.
Nice lilies at Walmart
branka,we are going to re-stabilize a lagoon near work..it covers about 2 acres total in a back water area along the river. We are going to buy a large number of the white and pinks and plant in this waterway. It will attract wildlife and we are going to add new small fish to keep the skeeters down...soon all kinds of wildlife will return to this otherwise dreadful looking body of water.A baldeagle spent much of the winter near this area looking for fish. :-) Can't beat the price..I can't even buy them this cheap wholesale ... even in large quantities.!
Sounds like a wonderful project, it's going to be gorgeous when the lilies start popping!
I don't know how Walmart can sell them for so cheap. I don't even think you could do postage for that amt. Along with the lily tuber, there were a couple of pondtabs, some coco liner, rocks and a mesh basket for planting. It's a nice little kit, but the basket it way too small to plant a lily in. I use 32 qt. tubs :).
I've always steared away from those packaged plants at wal-mart. It's nice to know they're worth the money and the plants are healthy. I'll have to keep my eye out for them this year.
Just stopped at Walmart, so far they only had a box with 2 hardy lilies , a water canna and a water iris. But more to come for onle 13.95.
They had the same "kits" at Lowes when I was there yesterday. They had white, pink, red and I think yellow lilies, all were named but you know how "names" are from "big boxes". Along with the lilies they had various canna, iris and other pond plants. I think they were $6 not $4 though. They even had some boxes with 3 lilies and sets of 3 other water plants.
I saw several water plants at Wal-Mart this year. Didn't get any though bc mine double and triple every year. I have gotten several of the boxed plants from wally world and they have always done very well for me. I must say I'm surprised too but they have all done well. Could be beginners luck LOL
I finally got it planted and sunk in the pond. It's the first time I've bought a boxed plant from Walmart. A few years ago, when I made my first pond, I bought one of those bagged lilies from Petsmart. It was a no name white one. It only bloomed two blossoms a summer, I thought that was normal, lol. Since that incident, I'll only buy lilies that are listed as excellent bloomers, and attraction is supposed to be a good one.
I keep hearing that Lowes has a nice selection of aquatics for good prices. I went there yesterday and they didn't have them yet. I guess it's still a bit early to stock them in this zone.
a couple of years ago I bought some boxes on clearance ($1) from Home Depot and when they bloomed the colors were NOT what were on the labels. I was very disappointed because one of those was supposed to be Rose Arey and our water garden society needed that one to replace one in a city park. But I did get the boxes for only a dollar and the basket was worth almost that plus I got some nice water lilies for trading and our plant sales. All was not lost at least but I am still looking for some of the lilies to replace those in the park.
