This post is from nearly a year ago now. Do you still have these Albizzia julibrissins? I have one I started from seed in a container, any tips on care?

Thanks!

These are considered a weed tree here in Ga but I have several growing in my yard and some tiny ones started in pots. I love them though! They overwinter here but I don't know if they survive in colder climes.

Here's what my SL book says about it: [paraphrasing]
They do best in high summer heat. Will grow in adverse conditions such as constant wind, salt spray, and alkaline soil. Can take drought but will grow slower and look yellow. Susceptible to webworms and wilt disease. Hummers and butters love the flowers. Re-seeds prolifically.

Berrygirl,
I would love to get one started. When I was a child, we had two in our yard. I didn't appreciate the blooms back then but I loved to collect the seeds. It seems like we do not have them around much anymore. I wonder if they are short-lived?

Trunnels,
Yes, they are short-lived which is one of the reasons lots of folks don't like them.
I think they live 30-40 yrs.

Maybe the reason you don't have many around your area is b/c they're all up here in Ga- LOL!!

LOL - sure would like to see them make a come back here!
