Good morning farmers and friends. It is a little after 4am here in Oregon, I just came back from the barn and am trying to warm up. It is cold and windy and bright moonlight. I was greeted by the sheep on the road on the way to the barn, the happy wanderers had found an open gate and took a stroll in the moonlight. One had blood on her rear so I put them all in the barn and sorted her out. She put herself into an empty lambing pen and I watched her straining, her body looked like she was still full of lambs. Blood usually indicates that the ewe has already lambed. Looking closer with a flashlite I could see that it was old blood, brownish, a sure sign of trouble. The owner came out and while I held her he reached in to untangle triplets and deliver them. The first one was breach and was dead but the other two are ok and the ewe is ok in spite of a rough delivery. She has an antibiotic bolus inside her uterus now to keep her from getting an infection.
Yesterday was cold and windy. I took some bulky items and went to the laundromat to use their big machines, then met hubby for lunch and was just about to leave and in walks my sister, so I stayed and visited with her for another hour. The sun was out and it was pretty but the wind made it miserable. Today will probably be the same, that big low pressure system over Colorado is pulling the air from here so we are getting a north wind. The isobars on the weather map for today are still over us.
My warm bed is waiting for my cold self to return. The cat keeps comming in here and rubbing against me purring, she is trying to get me out of this chair and take me to bed. She gets up when I do and sleeps in a chair until I come home and go to bed again. My hot chocolate is gone so it is time to try to finish warming up and get more sleep. The cat just came back for another try to get me moving.
Have a good day everyone, count your blessings.
