Are there any products out on the market that can safely be used on cats?

I have an electronic Flea Zapper (no chemicals envolved) that works fine on my declawed in-house cat, but we have two feral cats that have adopted us. They are mother and son. We had them spayed an neutered....noticed them scratching a lot lately. Don't think they would hold still while I run the Flea Zapper over them, so wonder if VanGuard, or some other product could safely be used. One hears so much about chemicals made to be used on cats, only to find that the product makes them deathly sick (like Hartz Mountain, a while back)!

Anybody know?
