Let's help a member happy up

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Looks funny, I know, but I always tell my kids to "happy up" when they have a long face. Well, a member who isn't able to get on is very depressed, and I thought it might be nice to send a few plants to cheer her up. I'm posting it instead of sending email, because I have had nothing but trouble with my puter lately, just got the mail from three days ago this afternoon. (Of course, they tell me it's not their "issue", but funnily, it always ends up solved without me doing anything, since I don't know what to do.) Anyway, if you have a yen to do something nice for someone who is really sweet, this is your chance. I spoke by phone with her a few days ago, and I know this will be a huge help for her doldrums. I will email someone who might have a more dependable connection, and ask her to respond to your offers, if any. Oh, think snow country and small garden area. Hehehe, if she comes here, the cat will be out of the bag, but I have a good idea it's safe for a couple of weeks. I'm planning on sending some stuff Monday. House plants, especially African Violets or leaves to start, will be over the top, it's what she talked about. When she gets a few plants in the mail, she will know where it started, but it will be fun to do it all at once. Anybody?

Hi,

Busybee, you are such a doll! Thank you so much for picking up the reins. I will be sending some canna that has small blooms of a rather stiff form and can be grown in a container or water garden, or about anywhere. Also, that cute little primrose Baa identified for me and CoCo last year, for inside and out, and some polka dot plants, same thing. I might toss in a ficus elastica, (rubber plant), arrowhead for water garden, and will sort of wing it for the rest.

Eyes, I'm lucky if I can get email at all anymore. But I did get mail on Sunday, e type, and was able to get to someplace besides eBay, too! I received several messages responding to this post, and I, too, am so impressed. Not surprised, but always in awe of the wonderful people here, really happy to share plants and seeds. 'Bee, you are such a joy, because I would have been hard pressed to handle this all alone.

I noticed the subject member's address leaves off the zip code in Gardenwife's list, as do several others. FYI only.

Many thanks to all who responded.

I have been a member of Dave's Garden for a while, but only a 'subscription' member since today. So this is the first time that I have participated in these forums.

I was sitting here and moping around, in the depths of depression, when I chanced upon this thread, which touched my heart.

What kind-hearted folks you are! Just reading about your thoughtfulness and friendliness was a definite day-brightener! You are fine people. So good to see!

All the best.

Welcome Sweet Pea,
I am north of you about 50-60 miles between Amite and Kentwood. It is so nice to meet you.I know you will enjoy it here at Daves.

So, SweetPea, what can we send you? Since you live in a gardener's paradise, probably very little, but don't hesitate to ask if you want something. I'm into wildflowers mostly, and live in exactly the opposite environment from yours, alkaline soil and really dry summers, but I do manage to find a few things for my sister in NE Louisiana. Before you know it, you'll be forced to expand your garden spaces to handle all you will find available.

To Aimee: Someone has offered to send seeds of a lovely plant I asked about. I can't believe it! It's like I died and went to Heaven! LOL.

I have to remember how generous gardeners are. I would share anything from my garden if asked.

Although shy, that should give me the courage to beg a neighbor for a small cutting of a lovely little variegated 'viney' thing growing in masses at the base of a tree (which I have been eyeing for a while).

I bought a similar item at Home Depot, but it would mean so much more to have plants or seeds that are from someone else's garden -- I love the Southern tradition of "passalong" plants (probably not limited to the South).

Now I have to go and bug my sister for those Lily of the Nile bulbs she promised me.... LOL.

You guys!!!!

Yes, the DG family sure is an amazing one. The feeling one gets when sitting at home all depressed and down in the dumps because the weather has been bad, the back is out again and the knee hurts........and then the mail man walks up with a small box and you say to yourself "I wonder what that could be?"......only to find out that it's plants and flowers from your DG family.......it's an experience that is just undescribable with words. It sure makes you feel all warm inside :o)
I love getting mail, especially since I feel that my family by blood has disowned me since I have come to the US.....no one ever writes me at all so when I get a card, letter, or package from anyone of you. It's this most wonderful feeling to know that someone cares and that even though you don't have blood family who cares, you have real family here at DG who sure does. Thank you everyone for making my days brighter!!!
