Isn't that the prettiest little thing! Is that with azaleas around it? Are they removable............in their own separate pots?

Is this an old pic or one taken now GLory?

Hi Roz!

Root, looks like you should put this one on your list.

Wow! That's beautiful Gloria. I'm hoping to salvage some of mine. I found out the hard way it doesn't like cool temps. Mine looks pitiful.

Kell,
That's a picture from last summer. Roz and I were talking today about maybe putting one of these in the front of her house under an overhang....I think it would work just fine.

BTW...that's a Bougainvillea in that pot with the Brug.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

It would look great anywhere you put it Glory! Such a cute little alley tree......

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

That looks so elegant Glory!

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

A nice picture thank you for sharing.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Great picture.....I remember it being posted a while back and I like it just as much now as I did then.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

wait, I thought bougies don't like too much water or food. Have you found a secret? I just got 4 small ones, and would die for this look.

tiG,
I guess this bougie didn't know that. LOL I didn't keep the bougie in that pot all summer....it got to big so I had to move it to it's own pot. My bougies get water when ever everything else does. Here is a picture of another one.

don't anyone tell mine, I'm going to do this too, it is a stunning picture.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

You must be careful when you pot up though Glory......... I know bougainvilleas have not have their roots upset much!

Have you had any trouble?

Kell,
So far so good...I think I have had the same Bougies for about 6 years now.

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

TiG, here we water Bougies in summer very much. It is said that they need a 6 week- 3 months resting time without much water. They will need that resting time for new flowers in summer.
Lol,only the european Bougies do so......

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Glory,was that Rasberry Ice?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Very pretty color. We don't have enough time for them to get much size here, but I'm thinking about trying some anyway.

CC,
I think so. I forgot I had this one and ordered three more on the Co-op. LOL

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I have it and ordered more
I love them!

CC,
I have planted one in the ground this year but I'll have to dig it up before frost...I just want to see what it does planted.
Remember this picture I took in San Diego? Super Bougie!!!

A friend of ours just got back from Florida and showed us pictures of his parents new winter home, over the neighbors fence all you could see was a huge bougie...

I yelled at him for not bringing a cutting back....LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Hard to beat a huge bougainvillea in full glory! Your picture is to die for Glory! Just absolutely gorgeous!!

I am surprised you have to dig yours up every year where you live. Here lots live thru our frosts. I bet you could get a variety that would survive.

I also am amazed that when you dig it up it lives! Maybe all the hoopla around here about not touching their roots is not true! Years ago when there were metal cans, nurseries would cut the can with cutters for you on bougainvillea plants and tell you not to even touch them, just put straight in a hole. They said even just pulling the plant out of the can would kill them if it got stuck at all in the pot.

If this is not true I will be so mad........... just a few weeks ago my DH dug up a big bougainvillea here, thinking it was the rose I wanted dug up. I told him to toss it for it would never survive having its root so disturbed.

Kell,
Roz has one planted in the ground and the last time I was there it had no sign of life but we were hoping it would sprout again.

I live 14 miles north of the Gulf of Mexico and it gets about 10 -15º colder at my house then at my Moms...she lives 1/2 mile from the Gulf....guess the warm water keeps her warmer in the winter.

Glory, Your Cypress Gardens is so elegantly presented, what a welcoming spot! Here's a pic of a bougie in bloom right now behind my garden shed, the thought of cutting it back after this flush is frightening. I'd rather be a little boy again and pick wild blackberries for a pie !

great pic and look at all the tropicals in your yard...........

John,
Do you have to cut it back every so often? Do you ever get frost in Fort Meyers?

Glory,
The older more vigorous hybrids have to be cut back after each flush or they just get to big to deal with, I love the modern hybrids. Once in a blue moon we get a light frost but it is never enough to cause any real lasting damage. Thomas Edison and Henry Fords winter estates are here . Edison besides being a prolific inventor and business man was an avid gardener. His garden has tropical trees that are now over a hundred years old some are just amazing to see!

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

WOW GLORIA! That is gonna look great in my front flower bed. I just cannot wait. By the way, the bougie does go with it , right? Yeah, right! I really like the way this one canopies; may have to get you to give me some pointers. Still no sign of life on the big bougie on my fence, but maybe just too soon?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Did it freeze? Maybe it will come up by the roots Roz........... I sure hope so. what color is it?

Roz,
I sure hope it comes back. All 8 of my Bougies are outside ...they aren't much to look at right now but give them a few weeks and they will be coming right along. The only thing I did to this Cypress Gardens was stick it in the pot...it did the rest on it's own.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Glory, that is beautiful! I'll take the whole kit & kaboodle!

Kell, bougies don't like their roots disturbed, but they won't automatically die if they're touched. I've seen pics of them grown as bonsai, so their roots have been messed with! One of mine had grown a huge root through the drainage hole of the 14" clay pot and into the ground next to it. I didn't find out until I picked it up to bring into the house in the fall. I didn't have any choice but to cut the root off level with the bottom of the pot. The top 18" or so died that winter, but the plant was fine.

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

My big bouganvillia is coming back! Well, I think it is, it is growing thorns, but at least it is growing something. That tells me it is alive. Don't see any green yet, but lots and lots of little white thorns.
