Okay, I cut my zebrinas back to about 4'. They have sat in the cool all winter. What do I do now? just pot them up? do they put out from the height I have them now or start over??

Stand behind the banana and gently take a large leaf in the left hand and a large leaf in the right hand. Sway back and forth while singing or playing your favorite song. That should look pretty life like. :)
doc, I brought them inside, in a very cool (cold) room. They are strong and firm but not green. I'll go check the center, hadn't thought to look.

okay doc, I had to pull a couple of the tallest cut leaves back just a bit, but the center is alive and well. 4' tall. now what? cut back??????????/ wait, isn't that why I cut them to 4' when I brought them in? so they would be bigger starting out?

tiG,I've had them come out the top,with just a hint of green,like the size of a pencil lead,then again I had one,I thought I lost,tossed in a corner no light,never watered,when I went to toss it to wash the pot,there was a pup,and that was a 4ft one.
I don't think I would cut back from the way yours sounds,trim off the leaves that are surely dead,get it some good light,water,sit back with a cold drink and relax.
If that doesn't work,go with seeds idea,just make the cold drinks on the strong side,you won't give a darn one way or the other,LOL

TiG, I just started to water mine again and they started growing back...they are now at the 4th leaf stage again.
mine aren't in dirt, probably better pot them up first! ;)

oops, sorry tig i just assumed you left them in the pot, that's what i did. i think at this stage we all need a helper...i have flats of heirloom tomatoes, 6 varieties of bell peppers, brug seedlings everywhere, brug plants, tropicals coming out the ying yang, cannas coming up from last year, etc...just starting to sow my annual seeds and started some veggies as well. Watering everything takes ages!
Too bad I don't live next to tiG and Joydie. I'd 'help' alright. LOL

I had 3 canna seeds sprout last year cuz I wasn't doing them properly. The cannas were a vibrant pink and the others were orange. There are about 17 pots of those cuz I never thought to mark what color they were so I have to grow them again to know which is which. The third seed was really slow to grow and never flowered. Its got pruple and green variegated folliage and I've continued to grow it over the winter. Two shoots are quite big and there are 2 small babies of the original mother. This year I have The President growing from seeds...way too many I know for sure!
My heirloom tomatoes are all up, about a dozen or more varieties. My grand daughter went wild this weekend planting up all sorts of things for "HER GARDEN". She's going to take them home in the spring and grow them on the balcony-she's only four (smile). Everything will be in containers for her.
My oldest daughter and her fiance just bought a house that they are having built. So in May I'll start perennial seeds to grow out over the next year. When the house is finished they can landscape next spring before the wedding in the summer. Looks like no rest for the "wicked" for this year anyway.
And I always say "No rest for the breasted!". LOL Joydie, I would be thrilled to be your neighbor. tiG can fend for herself!! LOL

You wouldn't believe how many brug plants I gave to neighbours last year. These were plants that I grew from seeds that people on the forum were kind enough to share with me.
Guess I better drag my pot full of banana trees out of the basement! I had forgotton all about them until now. I doubt they will make it though, because they had no water and were left in the cold cold basement all winter (not really a basement, more like a "crawlspace") Guess I know what I will do in the morning!!
O tiG, I see how you are now....you get Badseed over here on another thread and try and talk her into moving in next door to you! I guess I could handle that...then I'd know where both of you live! LOL
My neighbors don't give me anything but a hard time and strange looks! LOL They don't pass up extra veggies or homeade salsa, but they never ever want to give me plants! LOL Not since I lost the dear elderly woman next door. She is the one that started me into this whole gardening craze with three little tomato plants.

As for my Banana tree.....I just got my son to drag it out for me, and its dead! :( It has no signs of life whatsoever! Soooo Guess I wont be putting things under the house like that again! Better work on getting a greenhouse before next year winter!

I had actually cut this one back to about 4" and when we got it out, there was nothing but a few dead stalks. I think I will just put it on out in the sun and give it some water. I'll wait until later in the summer before I chunk it out. With all hope I "might" get a small pup outta the whole pot.
Can't beat the price on them though I got 8 3gal banana trees for $0.00!!! yep Wal-Mart gave them to me, I had to run over and get Jackie and took her back over there and then we got a ton more along with lots of other tropicals. We racked up that day! So I wont feel too bad if I lose it.
