Jippii......the first Brugmansia ever to me sprouted today......I sowed those 15.januari so it sure take pretty long time....
sorry this bad photo, I took six pics but and this was the best.
first Sprouted....
that's not really too long for brug seeds. Good luck with them and make sure when they are bigger you feed them well!!!
Looking good, now you are an expert. Plant some more.
I recognize that itty bitty thing.......... I was looking so hard at mine that I often mistook a piece of perlite that had turned green from the moisture as one and would jump for joy, email all my friends and then after watching it not change for several days would poke at it and it would roll over.....LOL.
CONGRATLATIONS!!!
LOL . . Kell, I have done the same thing. Congratulations Mitjo on your first seedlings.
Thanks! I have heart that Brug seed take long to germinate but I though that is still too long....and now I hear that that is a normal time.....
Kell! that perlite thing is fun.....I`m glad that I didn`t use perlite.....LOL!
In the photo the soil looks muddy? If it is wet, quickly replant the sprouts into different soil, peat mixes work well because it is so fluffy and lots of air spaces. The roots rot quick in wet soil. Sorry if I'm seeing things.
Congartulations Mitjo. You are now a certified 'brugmania' - which means 'crazy about brugs' :-) I showed my first seedling here some weeks ago and was welcomed into the realms of the addicted. Ludger pointed out to me that I was giving the seedlings too much water. http://davesgarden.com/t/374501/
Do you know which variety or named brug you have?
It is great to see such a young guy show so much interest in brugmansia. I can't wait to see what your seed produces. Bet you will be so excited when it blooms. Does Evert grow them too?
Mitjo,
Dennis and Padre are right, the soil is pretty wet.If you will not repot, use some papertowels, they will remove the water.
Congrats for your first seedling, some seeds will reach you as soon frost will go. I dont like to post while frost is here...because I do know the snail way posting.
Mitjo, Congratulations on your seedling. It will grow very quickly. :)
dear Dennis and Padre, the soil looks very soft, muddy and wet but it`s not, it is tight, not muddy and damp enough.
I transplant it when it grow little bit.
it`s Brugmansia white, Suoveolens X Insignís pink.
:) Brugie, I dont know grow Evert Brugmansias.....I think that he had some Brugmansias or Daturas on one summer....but....I`m not sure.
Thanks Ludger, I have thinking that where the Brug seeds went? glad to hear that post didn`t miss them...
Thanks Snowhermit.!
Mitjo, I'm glad that you have the watering of the brug seedlings under control. That is one of my constant worries, have I watered too much - or not enough. I wish there were a sureproof way of knowing. I guess there is. It's called 'experience', a commodity I am gradually acquiring. I just received six sang seeds and am now soaking them in preparation for planting. I'll let you know how the germination goes.
Yes, glad to hear it is just a different type of soil, it looks quite wet!
Another way to test soil wetness is get a small handfull, and squeeze it. Only 1-2 drips should come out. That is wet enough. This maybe won't work with actual garden soil, just peat mixes.
I sure want here Padre!
Thanks for the tip Dennis!
It's coming along very nicely. Sangs do well if you take care of them the same as others. They can take cooler temps, but do fine at most temps at this age. Sangs grow very quick!
Wow, Mitjo...looks great. Being new to brugs, I can't wait to try my hand at starting from seeds. I have been scouring the forums printing off all of tips and hints from "the teachers" that I could find. It is wonderful having so much experience at your fingertips..literally!
Thanks guys!
I`m just Brug beginner....first summer with Brugs starts soon........on autumm....maybe not so beginner anymore...LOL....
Congrats on your seedlings Mitjo and Daturalady. Theres just something that can't be beaten when it comes to experiences your first seedling blooming. Its like unwrapping presents at Christmas time...you never know what your going to get.
Remember Forest Gump, like a box of chocolates............just don't eat them! LOL
Very nice Mitjo I hope they continue to do well for you
Laurrie
I remember Forest...
thank you both!
I gave first fertilizers yesterday....not much but still. is it ok?
how big are they? I would think it's too early still.
I lightly sprinkle my seedlings with fertilizer after they get their first set of true leaves, but I don't even think that the amount I give is even recognized by the brugs. Its just 2-4 rocks a piece of a systemic fertilizer which I hope keeps the bugs off of them to some degree. I hate seeing the tops chewed off just after they sprout. Its probably not effective at all, but it gives me some pschological comfort at least.
same size as on the pic:)
"lightly sprinkle my seedlings with fertilizer after they get their first set of true leaves".....if that so..maybe that`s not too early..
Looking absolutely fantastic! Good job!
Wow, Mitjo, you did a very good work. When you will get them outside, put in shadow for two weeks. The sun will burn them.
Congrats with your seedling. It took a while to germinate, but sure turn out to be a fast grower. I don`t know about Eric said about watching ones first one in its first bloom, because mine are also small ones and will probably not bloom before next year, but there is something about watching the first one come up and grow as well :) I sprinkle mine with a very light watersolutable fertilizer twice a week and they grow pretty good, but are more streached that your seedling. I was close to loosing one due to overwatering. I didn`t notice that the soil got soggy for about five days. The growth stunned a little, since the roots didn`t develop to the same size as the others, but it has started to grow well again.
Padre, Shirley is right about the picture on your post. It looks like D. wrightii or D. inoxia, they are smaller, but real pretty in their own way thoug. I must admit that I enjoyed your posts about your GH. It look so much better now after what you have done with it. Also after seeing the picture of your seedlings that was the inspiration needed to kick start me to move my seedlings into larger pots. Its nice when good habits are flying from your camera and into a Danish GH *l*
Thank you all!
thanks for the tip Ludger, I will put on shodow or under veil. that protect plants nicely for sun and cold.
Tonny_and_Lene!, nice to see somebody not so far away. my mother-language teacher visited in DK with her class few weeks ago......class, trip you know?
place was some "Colding" or "Golding" or "Gölding"....I dont really know how it should write...
Mitjo, it is so good to meet another Scandinavian here :)
Say, how do you make your seedling grow so compact? Mine has longer space between the leaves, but yours seems so regular and nice :) ?
It sounded real cool with that class trip. It must be Kolding in Jylland. They have this large middelage fortress, Koldinghouse and the geographical gardens. They have a great handball team as well. When I went to school the farthest we traveled on class trips was Bornholm *lol* Part of my fathers family come from a city close to Kolding called Fredericia and Lenes two brothers live there as well. One is Erik and if you ever come to Fredericia you must see his Brugmansias *lol*
Mitjo, do you know much about Siberian Huskies? We have a dog named Terry and he can be a street cross, but could also be or have in his mix the browneyed husky from the east Sibirian. He is slender and looks a bit like a German Shepard dog, but his fur, face and tail habit are like the huskies and bear dogs. I will post a few pictures later on the pets forum : ) Thanks.
Evert is from Finland too:)
much light is my tip.....they are under plantlight some 14H per day.....and there`s window too.
oh yes, they liked that very much! Kolding it was then. our teacher said (she´s gardener too)....that much plants were flowering...and there was very beautifull...
yes, I´d like to visit in Denmark some day too....middle summer or end of spring would be great time!
Siberian Huskies, not much. just that they are big dogs...and somebody use them on dog team. they have much fur.....so they could be on very cold....
ok:)
