I know this has been discussed... but I'm still not getting it through my thick head. Can I EVER make a tree from a cutting out of the flowering region? Will the cutting produce a non-flowering region.. at all?
Tree vs Bush question
yes, the trunk it forms this year will then be non-flowering growth.
I have one now that looks like it's not going to have a trunk - lol. I staked it up so it doesn't look so silly. I wonder ... should trim growth from the lower part of the branch so it will grow up more?
if it's rooted, I can't see why not
It's rooted. Are the pieces I cut off from this going to be flowering region too?? ... and make bushes? It's all the same wood... right? I'm so confused!!
has it Y'ed yet? If not, I think they will all be flowering region. Not sure, better wait for the experts.
It is a Y. :)
here is a quote from monikas book (which I highly recommend to all newbies)
"if Angels Trumpets are propagated from cuttings taken out of the flowering (generative) region, then the new plants resulting from such cuttings will remain in the flowering phase for the rest of their life. "

Hi Tig, Forgive me as I really don't want to disagree with you personaly, but that quote is almost true but not not a difinitive fact as some cuttings taken from "Generative" (Flowering) growth produce jeuvenile-phase suckers! Suckers provide excellent standard grown(Tree-shape) Brug material!
Best wishes always,
Bruno
I just want to say that I have taken or gotten cuttings from above the "Y" and then later on a new shout of generative grouth comes up and then I cut the orginal cutting off and have a small tree the only draw back is the fact you have to wait for it to "Y" before you have anymore bloomss for what its worth
Bruno, didn't think about suckers, as those wouldn't be from the actual cutting I can see where that works.
Bruno, I agree, suckers make great trees. They grow up so fast also.
