Ya know thank God for Gardeners. I was driving one day when I spied my first plant in some poor guy's yard, did a u-ie pulled up in drive and ran straight for the thing. The old guy was so pleased he ran into the house for a knife and cut me off a piece! I had no idea that they would grow here!

Yup, I'm probly gonna be real sorry.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Welcome to Dave's Violabird. You will find all all the information that you need to know about growing brugs right here.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I like the fragrance of Dr. Suess and Whiskers a lot. Versicolor Orange has a great smell too. Welcome to the brug forum. I've seen you around in other forums, so it is good that you have "come on over". We love to chat with anyone who will listen to us. Never hesitate to ask questions.....someone will be in a talkative mood and jump in and answer. Have a great day and come back often.

St. Louis, MO(Zone 6b)

Welcome Violabird. You will soon learn why brug lovers often leave the 's' out of the name of the plant when they spell it;-). I'm less than three months old in this addiction and already have over 100 seedlings and 9 cuttings!! I'm powerless over brugs and my life has become unmanageable! Wonderfully so.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Welcome Violabird. You will love it here. Becca Lynn has a great smell to it.

Co.Wicklow, Ireland(Zone 8b)

Hi Violabird...(That'ld be a great name for a puple brug..LOL) Out of all my Brugs, 'Charles Grimaldi' seems to have the strongest fragrance! Even when the greenhouse door is closed, I can still smell it outside in the garden!
A Big Welcome to DG's Brug forum! You'll really love it here!

Best wishes always,

Bruno

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Welcome Violabird. You will like it here.As I know some brugnuts here, you soon will have more seeds and cuttings as you need...
Charles Grimaldi and some versicolors have a heavy, sweet fragance.Arboreas are smelling very strong like citrus or vanilla.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Family!!!!!!!!You're better than family...I can talk gardening whenever I want! I'm beginning to think that finding ya'll was the best thing to ever happen to me. I live alone, and even tho I talk to my dogs, birds, lizards and deer--it just ain't the same. I see my "honey" in rainy/cold/too hot weather! (Now you know why I talk so much, ya'll just have to put up with me--I'm stayin!)

My drive-by Brug is a waxy white one with a lite lemony scent when you stick your nose right in it! The ole fellow just said that he brought it from Florida, so I have no name any guesses? I already did take a cutting that grew in the garden (left out-2nd year don't know it it made it)but it didn't bloom--my fault--not enough food and water. But my 1st luv is 3 years old in the same pot and same soil, but it bloomed alot from June on.
How do you change the soil?

"sniff" I just luv you guys. Thanks for the warm welcome.

Viola

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Viola, welcome....It will be an experience.....

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

I have a yellow one (lemon) that smells like a lemon. But the one I like best so far is Dr. Suess. It starts out a yellow and then turns almost a dull orange and smells out of this world. I don't have a lot of the ones mentioned above but do have quite a collection but a lot of them haven't bloomed yet. So I am ready as you for the show to begin.

Welcome to the forum and yes it is addictive. Visit the brug database and look at all the lovely plants. Well maybe you better plan that for a weekend.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

You'll like it here violabird. We're like family, we cheer each other on, pat each other on the back, feel sad when one of us is sad, squabble with each other, make up. Yes, just like a real family.
Welcome.

SEYMOUR, CT(Zone 6b)

hi to ya all
i have gotten brug seeds from here and i have a lot of questions like can i start them in the house and when? they are ollie x insignis pink and white suaveolens? spelling
x insignis pink and white datura.. what kind of sun do they like

(Mary) Poway, CA(Zone 10a)

You're going to fit right in here! If you had any hope of overcoming a Brug addiction .... well, just forget it! You'll see picture after picture and your 'want' list will grow longer than Santa's toy request list. Good thing the computer screen is 2 feet away from me. It wouldn't be cool to get drool all over it. Right now I'm thinking Brugs look pretty in pink and wondering how many I can fit without annoying the DH too much. (And to think he thought they only came in white! Ha!)
Mary

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

HOLLMART, you can't start them in the house send them to Lagrange.LOL
I haven't had much luck with seeds but my wife likes to try. Someone will be along before long with the answers for you. Welcome. Jim

"down the Shore", NJ(Zone 7a)

Welcome, Violabird! I know you will enjoy the Brugs and Friends. John

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

HOLLMART,I just got my first Brugs to start from seed,I put them in a soiless mix, kept moist,I put the little plastic pot in a ziplock bag,and Bang they came up!
I have some that I am still hoping will come up,some ofthem seem to take forever,
you will be fine to start them inside, sooner the better,
as far as the Daturas,I start them going early also,I grow them as annuals, give tem a soak for a couple of hours in a wet paper towel, the seed will swell slightly, and you will see a little white nub swell, put them in soil and they should be up in notime!
Good luck
Root

SEYMOUR, CT(Zone 6b)

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

About my re-potting question??? What are the roots like on a 3yr old Brug? It's in a 17" pot. Same 3yr old dirt. Has anyone lost one while changing the dirt? I'm scared.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

You won't loose the brug. You might throw your back out trying to wrestle with it though. Cut some of the roots off, about a third of them and then re-pot with new soil. Water it in, leave it in shade for a while and then gradually take it out into brighter light. You should have no problems with it. You asked what the roots are like on a 3 year old brug???? You are going to find out and they are tuff stuff.

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

A 3yr you can repot, don´t shave the roots too much. And cut back some leafes if are too many.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

What about hosing out the dirt, would that work? Or I just need new soil on bottom? Thanks!
