Sensitive Plant (Mimosa pudica)

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Is anybody growing these? I sowed some and three sprouted. They're neat when they move their leaves :)

I made a short video of it > http://www.kolumbus.fi/evert.nylund/Kasvit/Mimosa_pudica.MPG

hi evert, we grow them, but not by our likings. they are considered a noxious weed here. I do however think they are neat plants.

jmLisa,
Are you sure the Sensitive Plant Mimosa grows wild there? Or is it the tree Mimosa that grows wild? The tree Mimosa grows wild here, that's for sure. Their leaves don't close up. I even tested them to make sure they're not the same.

I've been wanting to get some more of the Sensitive Plant seeds to try & germinate them again after mine died from damping off. I have very few left & don't know if they're still viable after two years in storage.

My son thinks these & Maranta Prayer Plants are the neatest things. I have to find some Marantas for him too.

liz, hi..yes, I am sure :-) we have both here, Mimosa (large trees) and the Sensitive Plant (low, ground cover that spreads) Do you need some seeds gathered? If I remember, I can collect some for you.

I know of the Mimosa Plant that folds its leaves up & grows to about 2' tall. Then there's the 20'-something Mimosa Tree with the greenbean-looking pods that doesn't fold its leaves up. But I didn't know there was a Mimosa groundcover! And you have all three growing wild there? Wow.

I'm going to try germinating what seeds I have left first. There's no use wasting them. If that doesn't work, I'll contact you. Thanks for the offer!
