I have just put 18 packets of garlic chive seed together. There are apx. 25 or so seeds to a pack. Don't know if others have experienced naturalizing of their chives. They have taken off everywhere.
I'd love to trade if anyone is interested. This is my third jump into trading. Definately a novice. Any suggestions are very welcome. I want to be a trader that you all feel good about.
Thanks, Cathy

Kokopelli: Aren't chives great when they really get going! I only began growing the garlic ones last year, but I have several bunches of the others around my yard. Chives put out such lovely flowers, then lovely seeds, that it's a great seed to collect and easy to plant. Are the flowers white on garlic chive, or purple like the others?
I have some suggestions for trading. First of all, begin your trade list on Dave's. It's the easiest way to let people know what you have for trade and what you are looking for. Keep track of your communications with traders so you know who is sending what. As a courtesy, always let the sender know when you get their package.
Always package seed so that it won't break open in the mail, and using botanical names helps to identify exactly what has been sent. Use bubble wrap or some sort of padding that prohibits the envelope from going through the rollers at the post office. Seeds get crushed otherwise.
I've found that I enjoy trades most when I don't have high hopes or great expectations. Visiting with the folks I trade with is as important as the seed I send or receive. Keep in mind that seeds may not always be viable, or seeds may be mis-marked, and that seeds collected from hybrid plants may be quite different than th parent plant. Also, most gardeners are collecting open pollinated seed that may have been the result of cross pollination.
You can trade, ask for SASE (self-addressed envelope), or just send the seed. Trading seeds is fun, so just enjoy it.
thanks weez. the garlic chives have pretty white flowers
Thanks, kokopelli! I've started them last year and was a bit confused how to tell them from regular garden chives. It also seems the stems are flatter, doesn't it?
yup
Thanks!
Um, I'd like some garlic chives!
I can trade for them (virtually) any tomato seed you'd like. Plus a few rare beans.
E-mail me your wish list and I'll tell you what tomatoes I have!
(Sorry, I never did work out how to use the Trade section on this site!)
