lots of catkins everywhere so far I've seen them on willows, Alders and Hazel
today was warm again 13C
wildlife observations March 5th
The blackthorn is beginning to flower - yippee, more sloe vodka in the autumn - and yes, the catkins are in full swing (lol)
The bluetits are going mad in the garden today, swinging from anything swingable and one keeps trying to get at the plants on my study windowsill, it hasn't worked out that there's some glass in the way.
........and it's 13C here too!! But overcast and a bit windy
Did you spot Sirius, the dog star?
havent said since you said but will try and remember tonight
too cloudy here :(
lovely here so I'll have to get gravel moved so I can bring the car in at night. must also try and remember to photograph an albino snowdrop that I have.
Andrew won't be getting his hands on it then lol - hope it's not too many more barrowloads, but it should bring the low bit by the house up nicely.
Where was the albino then? Has it only just come out?
I didnt remember about it until last night when I was making a note on flowering sized bulbs and how many I can chip in June.
An albino snowdrop looks normal except there are no green marks on the inner petals.
just noticed a male starling with a yellow beak. all the rest around here are just beginning to change
Ah, you showed me one like that - pokli....something? Will ahve to get that book when it comes out so I learn these things!
Yes, a couple of yellow beaks here and male bluetits with crests up displaying.
poculiform is when the inner and outer petals are the same length
Yes, I remembered that but I thought the one you showed me didn't have green marks either. Oh
yes but it has inner petals equal the length of the outer.
The albino looks like a regular shaped snowdrop minus the green mark on the inner petals
OK
Just seen a badger trotting along the lane as I came home from Dell's this evening. So much nicer to see a moving one rather than horizontal!!
