CC they can take up to 4 years to bloom from seeds...most take about 2 years....Seeds can be any color.they are like brugs..never bloom true to form. :-)

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I have about 20 seedlings....supposedly from a pink......

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Plumerias have double the chromosomes of other plants..a white plant can throw red seedlings, a yellow can throw pinks......etc....so no guarrantee of white size, color or type you will get.

CC,
Here is a picture I took of mine in the ground last year...this was taken right as it started to bloom. They are hanging in the GH right now waiting to be planted back in the ground in a few weeks.

Kyle, is one color more likely to come from seeds, or is it pretty much a crap shoot? Does the mother have a big influence on the color? Did I waste my money buying seeds from a fancy pink mother plant?
(Are you getting sick of my questions yet?)

Thanks for your help and your endless patience!

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Ronna..its a crap shoot! LOL you can get ANYTHING....I grew hundreds of seedlings years back..all different. Some big flowers..others small..ya just never know.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I have 3 large ones, the one is a yellow /w white, the other 2 will hopefully bloom this year....

But the babies........
hate to trade them away when I don't know what they'll look like..........

Anything is possible :)
Anything is possible :(

Ok, I paid the same amount for 30 plumeria seeds AND 30 adenium seeds as somebody else paid for just 10 plumeria seeds & I might get as good or better plants than they will.

I COULD have paid the minimum & still had the same chances for wonderful plants.

And, finally, I NEED A GREENHOUSE!!!!!

Everything will go outside in another six weeks or so, but fall always comes, and I have lots of seeds to sprout.

Kyle, How old does the plant have to be to produce seed? Mine bloom but I don`t have any seed.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

busybee..they have to be hand pollinated in cultivation as a rule..hard to do.Moths sometimes pollinate them.

Kentwood, LA(Zone 8b)

Thanks Kyle, I am going to keep mine outside and hope one of those hummingbird moths find them.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Busybee,,when it gets pollinated the seed pod looks like two longs spikes comming from a central stem.Takes them a long time to ripen. :-)

CC,
That's kinda pretty. A 2 year wait doesn't sound too bad especially when you consider that if you planted perennials flower seeds they won't flower until their second year. I think the wait is well worth it for these little beauties.

Kyle,
Are plumerias heavy feeders? I have one that's surviving indoors. Should I plant it directly into the ground over the summer, or can I leave it in a pot? Which is best?

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Joyce..leave it in a pot and when the heat of summer starts feed it every other week with a bloom booster fertilizer..they need lots of phosphorus.

Ok thanks ((Kyle))

Thanks Kyle, Mine haven`t made any seed so far even though they were outside. Maybe this year.
