I can't for the life of me remember who sent me a plant called Voodoo lily! I know I remember they said that it needed planting then which was late fall I think.
Which I did plant it right away, but when I got it it was all green and healthy looking and now as the winter months have passed, it has turned a ugly shade of dead brown! I am hoping that it will come back this spring. I guess what I need to know is, should I cut it back? Like at the ground, so that it will come back? Or should I just leave it alone?
Does anyone remember sending me this?? Maybe it was my secret swap trader?? Not sure....
Edited to change the name of the plant....Its a Voodoo lily! (I also have a chinese parasol out there somewhere too) But the plant in question is marked Voodoo lily.

Does anyone remember sending me plants?
Come on you guys I know somebody sent me this plant!!! Try to remember if you were in a secret swap or something like that and may have gotton my name....Please!!
If no one remembers sending it....can someone at least tell me what I should do to this plant??
MOLLYBEE, I was curious, so did a search, of course first results were our own davesgarden plants database! Here is the link, with a photo of the leaves:

Hope that helps; now you can at least do a search for information if no one claims to be the plant's sender! John
You know what John, I actually done a search for this here and came up with the same results. But the plant I have looks nothing like this at all. It is so hard to explain too. It was about 9"tall and was about as big around as your thumb. It was like layers of leaves...all rolled up tight and the top of it was pointed. looked like you could peel off each one, one at a time like a onion. But it was more like a stalk. See I knew I would have a hard time explaining it!! Maybe it isn't the same plant. But I did make myself a marker, so I will have to go out tomorrow and take a pic of it. Or maybe it is the same plant but just in a baby forum?
Thanks John!!
hope this link helps ... http://www.uah.edu/admin/Fac/grounds/CHPARASL.HTM , be sure to click the underscores or underlined words to see the photo.
Thanks MaeVie, That had lots of good info! I am still not sure if this is even the same plant....but I will post a pic as soon as daybreaks here. This is driving me nuts!
u're welcome Molly. will wait for ur photo... hopefully we can ID ur plant.
MVR, you have been so missed! Good to see you here.
MOLLYBEE, This site shows some Amorphophallus (Voodoo Lily) plants and the leaves on them. Mine go dormant in the fall and the stems dry up. I repot in the spring and start watering again and they throw out new shoots. It takes a few years before they will flower. Is this what you have? http://www.aroid.org/gallery/thyndman/Plant_Pictures.html
Yea I am pretty sure this is one in the same plant. But I think I may have killed mine. I planted it outside in the ground, and not in a pot! I am really hoping that it comes back this spring though.
The more I have thought about it, I "think" I got it from Busybee and the plant list just said "plant now" out beside it....so I planted it outside! I guess I will keep my fingers and toes crossed on this one!
Thanks Snow!!
Mollybee - I got one of these things about 4 yrs ago. Every year it just put up one big leaf - no flower. Then last year I moved it to a sunnier spot and 4 leaves came up. So I am hoping one day to get a bloom. It just goes dormane but it should come back for you. Good luck.
Molly, I'm pretty sure I had your name in the secret trade that tiG did last year but I don't have any voodoo lilies so it wasn't me. Just wanted t let you know...Hope you've found all the info you need :-)
Thanks PJ, That at least gives me hope.
Vic, I just went thru all my junkie papaerwork and found out who my traders were. Yep you were one of them...but not the one who sent the Voodoo lily. Thanks for posting though.
It was Busybee!! That sent me the Voodoo lily!!! Now to e/mail her. I hope I have as much luck as PJ has!
Molly,
sometimes I wonder about you girl, lol. I gave you the plant one of the times when you came over. Put the baby in the ground, it's hardy here. I have them planted in several different places and they multiply every year. Don't put it near the front door though, any place else will be fine. It really SMELLS BAD when it blooms, like rotten meat. If for some reason, it doesn't bloom for you this year, I'll call and you can come over to see mine. The blooms are really beautiful.
LOL Jackie! You know me I'd forget my head if it wasn't screwed on tight! LOL
Thanks! I'll be in touch.
