Can anyone tell me a little about the Preissel book "Datura & Brugmansia"? Is it in English, and have you found it worthwhile? Is it hard to find? I understand there is a good deal more information on Datura in this book, which would be fine, as monika's book is superb for Brugmansia information. Thank you, John
Preissel Book?
if you have Monikas book, it's all you need for brugs. Don't know how much it has on Datura though, you might find everything you need in this forum.
I do know the german Preissel-Book and do something about growing Brugs and Daturas in Herrenhäuser Gärten( there Mr Preissel is working ).
I believe the informations here in this forum are much better.
John, go to www.Bookfinder.com and type in Preissel (author) and Datura (title) and you will be given about 20 places you can get it as new or used from $13 - 30+ (hard cover). Some of the sites have a review as well (by growers). If you leave the author blank and just enter Datura you will get a list of other books on the subject - some Very technical. Have fun.
I paid 30 bucks for my book and for the amount of information that this book has about datura, I would have to agree with Ludger. The information is right here and it is free.
Thank you very much for your replies.
Does anyone have information about the other Datura book, by Avery, "Blakeslee: The Genus Datura"?
I agree, though, that there is excellent information to be found right here!
Thanks again, John
Sorry, I dont know this book.Lol, I see that Preissel used this book for writing his book.
Yes, the Avery book is from 1959.
I was going to ask if the Preissel book was in English, glad somebody did. Also glad to know I can keep my hard earned money since I spent some wisely and bought Monika's wonderful book. Can always learn something here. :>)
Yes, Monika's book is excellent!
I have both of these popular books and would highly recommed the Updated English Edition of the Priessel's book!
It a great read and very comprehensive (is that the right word?)A compilation of all Brug information, it's virtually an encylopedic and it's the one you'll find yourself refering to!
BTW: Someone asked me this morning if I knew where they could buy Anne Kirchner-Abel's Brugmansia Book! I didn't know she even had a book! Does anyone know where I can buy this?
A thought on the Avery book from 1959, many things have changed since then, it may be 'a bit' out of date to say the least.
I have both Monika's and Preissel's books (new english version), and I would have to say Monika's is more up to date with all of the culture and varieties.
Hi Dennis, How's things? Haven't heard from you lately! E-mail me if you get a chance!
Sorry Bruno I've been away this week, (thankfully) no computer up there, I'll send an email to you.
