Sore throat

I've had a bad post nasal drip for about 2 weeks now. The side it was draining on in the back of my throat is now seriously infected. The infected area is big, about a half an inch long. I never go to a doctor because I am rarely sick, in fact, I don't even have a family Dr. Does anyone have any remedies other than gargle with warm salty water? Just thinking of the cost to a Dr. makes me sicker than what I am. Do you think the infection is to much to get better on its own? I am trying to ride this thing out. Thanks, Lisa
