Ravenea (Majesty Palm)

Allen Park, MI(Zone 6a)

My wife bought a Ravenea a couple of weeks ago.
The leaves are beging to brown.
Its not been over watered or allowed to dry out.

Its in indirect light per the instructions.
Anyone have any ideas as to what might be wrong?

Thanks

Paul in a word...too low of humidity..these grow in Madagascar along rivers in tropical areas. The seedling we buy in this country are grown in southern Fla..where the humidity is high too.

Majesty palms do NOT do well indoors... they may not blazing sun at first, but they need LOTs of light. It is rarely light enough indoors for them. Also, high humidity is not necessary for this palm, though they do like living in wet root conditions. I don't know where you live, but this is a great palm for growing outdoors in So Cal. Elsewhere I would recommend outdoor life for as long as comfortably possible, and then indoors in the brightest, suniest spot (though direct sun will burn unacclimated leaves). These palms do great in direct sun once acclimated... which is very hard to do if they're not outside most of the year. Good luck.
