JCF! My tree is still waiting for me to plant it (sitting in a bucket) and my puppy WILL NOT leave it alone! Does it taste good, like sweet? I know it smells great! I had to put it up, and (I'm planting it today). :-D
Janet, no problem at all, and no hurry. But buy that poor dawg some root beer, will ya???? (giggle)...
luckie is the pup that was the only one to survive from a liter of 18. she is eating everything she can get hold of. 3 rose of sharon are down to the ground. she has even chewed the porch rails quite badly. but she is my baby and i love her dearly so we just work thru this time of teething and all.
JCF, my puppy when teething loved to chew on ice cubes. Might be a help.

Hi all. Go_vols, I am moving out to Crossville or Cookeville area, which is sort of close to you. I'm still getting use to gardening in the south. Would you mind telling me when it is safe to start cuttings in this area? I'm in Knoxville now and will have to save what I can before I have to move. There is a sweet smelling wisteria out back, that I wish I could take with me, as it probably will be destrayed after I move. There are a lot of Iris's and some peonies that need to be dug up. The reason that I ask is, I'm not real strong yet, do to illness, so it will take me a while to do this. I think that I can get by with digging up the bulbs soon, as some are starting to grow. I'm not sure about the wisteria or the peonies, though. I'm going to get some pear and apple cuttings before I go. Which I probably should do soon. My neighbor is giving me cuttings from her mulberry tree, honeysuckle (wild and tame variety). I don't think it's too early for them, do you? And if I'm able, I'd like to trade, especially, if you all don't mind waiting until I move to send me anything back.
Hi Auzzie! Welcome to DG :) I think the weather conditions on the plateau are going to be pretty similar to K'ville - if anything, maybe a bit colder.
I'm not familiar with taking fruitwood cuttings, so I can't advise you on them.
Generally speaking, it's better to wait until bulbs have bloomed before digging them up - if that's not possible, then take as big of dirt ball with each one that you can. Standard advice is to move peonies only in the fall. I think you can move them other times, but they will respond by refusing to bloom for a few years (at least that's what the "experts" say :)
The irises can be taken up now, but they probably won't bloom this year (they might surprise you, though - you just never know.) If you can wait until they bloom (June-ish), that would be preferable.
Any luck with ice cubes?
Cathy
I gave my puppy old bagels that were hard for teething on and she loved them!! Some times I would even spread a little peanut butter on the bagel and she loved it!
Thanks for the advice. I figured it would be colder in winter and hotter in summer in Crossville. I don't have a lot of time and I am very slow due to physical problems. So I have to start now in order to get as much as I can. The Iris's and peonies are so crowded that it is hard to dig them up without cutting into anything. So, they are not producing flowers much anyhow. The peonies are being crowded so bad that they are being harmed.
