The brug room

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

No heated greenhouse here... so I decided to make one in the house! I got me a fancy light and cleaned out a bedroom upstairs to make a plant room. These are just the cuttings. Seedlings are down stairs on my PVC stand with flouresents.

Not the greatest picture with the bright glare from the light. It has really made a big difference on how they're growing tho. I'm already running out of space.

Wow Sue, looks like you are going to have a brug jungle in no time.....

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Looks great! they all look really healthy. What kind of light is that?

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

They look great Sue. Your light looks like the same one I have. It really puts them into high speed growing mode. They outgrew my sunporch last year after I started using that light. You'll really have a jump start on them this year.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

The light was an after Christmas present to myself! It has both a metal halide & a HPS bulb... 400 watts each. So it's 800 watts all together. The room is not insulated so it's pretty cold up there... otherwise I think light would get too hot. It seems to be doing the whole room pretty good... although the plants farther away from the light are leaning toward it. Got a few buds coming on some. Maybe I'll get some blooms :)

Looking great Poppysue. I love those lights, they make a huge difference in the plants in low light situations.

I hmmed and hawed for a long time about spending the money... but I'm glad I did now. This will be where I over winter most of my tenders. The big brugs are down stairs in the basement.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I'm thinking I have my metal halide light too high.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

tiG - I think the heat is the biggest worry. If it's too close it will burn the leaves.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

well, I'm so close to spring (please Lord) I think I'll leave it as is for now.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Rotflol!

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Where do you get those kind of lights? I only have forescent shop lights.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

I ordered off the web. A hydroponic place would have them if there's one near you. We don't have anything like that around here.

Co.Wicklow, Ireland(Zone 8b)

What a great set-up you've got there! Now all i need to do is kick my little sister out of her room! LOL

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

(Don't tell me to ask the neighborhood pot grower)LOL
I thought about getting one but don't know the do's and don'ts

Co.Wicklow, Ireland(Zone 8b)

Hmmm...I've always wanted to grow a Cannibas plant! They'd be the perfect "weed" for my exotic garden..LOL

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Don't tell....but I think that's what these hardy hibiscus are? Sure look like it? Haven't had any cops checking them lately, they are right by the road.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Sue, what a nice setup you have. Your plants look great.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

This is where I got mine http://www.4hydroponics.com/lighting/index.htm It was about the cheapest around with free shipping. The info on their pages about lighting is very helpful.

Coal Center, PA(Zone 6a)

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Hey,whats up with the Dude?????

I'm studying........

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

Poppysue, your plants look really nice. They're doing lots better than the cuttings I tried to raise in my bedroom last year. That bordered on depressing, and they were in a south window too.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

looks like you will have a brug forest this summer Poppysue! they look very happy!

Hamilton, Canada

poppysue,
a fantastic setup you have going there. everything looks lush and healthy. the light system seems to be working very well for you. if you keep up you will have a tropical forest in no time.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

They look very good sue! All it needs is a good idea and see if it works. And as seen, it does very well.
