I just got some special seeds in a trade, and want to get the best germination possible. CC sent me some seeds a couple of months ago. I soaked them overnight, peeled them, then potted them up and stuck them on top of the tv for bottom heat. They're still popping up, one at a time, but only one has sprouted so far of the ones I wanted the most (Isabella x Whiskers). Does anyone sprout them in paper towel & baggie? It usually works well for me, but I haven't done it with brug seeds before. Any other hints?
Starting seeds
Ronna, just give them time. Different kinds sprout at different times. I've got some seeds that I planted in November that have sprouted and have seedlings with 6-8 true leaves and others in the same pot/same variety, are just popping up. Go figure.
Thanks, Brugie, that's what I figured on the ones that were already potted. Hopefully a few more will pop up. I just wondered if the paper towel/baggie method was a good idea for the new ones. They're Canary Bird x Raffaella, by the way. I remember a discussion about knowing which parent was dominant in some seeds by the size & appearance of the seed, but don't really remember the details. These haven't been soaked or peeled yet, but some of them are flat & some are thick. There are different sizes, too.
I tried the paper towel thing ,I had some good results, try it!
