I have been trying to acquire Cinchona seeds or plants for the past YEAR. I'd be happy with ANY species.
Even B & T World Seeds can't help at this time; and an appeal to the Darwin Center on the Galapagos Islands (where C. are being cleared as noxious weeds) fell on deaf or unresponsive ears. There is a ban on exporting seeds from Central America, where they are indigenous and threatened; they are grown commercially in Indonesia, Africa and India, as well as Madagascar and other places.
Does ANYONE out there know how I can get hold of some seeds or plants?
It's easy to get Cinchona bark powder; but impossible to get the tree!!
Cinchona
here is some info on this plant/tree? ... http://www.rain-tree.com/quinine.htm
at the end of the site, maybe u can send email to find answer to ur quest.
You going to make quinine?
:-)
funny Kyle LOL! u got some seeds? or know a source of the seed?
Ma Vie thats what chinchona is used for ..making quinine for Malaria treatment. :-)
Kyle... after doing research to refer the link above, i learned chinchona is for making quinine. speaking of Malaria during WW II a lot of Amer. service man in the Phil., suffered from Malaria. i have heard my father and grandpa's stories on how they have to find and bring quinine to the soldiers without being detected by the Japanese. one of the few reasons why i am familiar with quinine.
I have located a possible source of seeds in Zimbabwe.
Unfortunately, this source can supply seeds only in lots of TWO KILOS!!!
Is anyone interested in joining me?
Let's see: 2 kg is 2000 g., and each person wouldn't need more than a couple of grams....SO: are there a thousand people out there who want to grow their own Conchona trees from seed???!!!
