Oxalis

Rose Hill, NC(Zone 8a)

I would like to put an Oxalis collection together
for my 2003 project.
Anyone out there that knows about these guys?
I have ordered some from Africa and they will be shipped soon
Thanks
Larry

There are two kinds that are invasive and grow wild in southern California. Both have yellow flowers but one is a couple of inches tall and the orther 9 or 12 inches.

Oakland, CA(Zone 9b)

There are several non-invasive types, however, including a really beautiful one with coral-colored leaves and little tiny yellow flowers (as opposed to the invasive type, where the flowers are on 8-12" stems). I just bought several to brighten up a shady bed.

Hmm, wonder if mine is on that list? Want some of it? It is already growing like the rest of the weeds!

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

personally I think you are asking for trouble! make sure you research them all thoroughly. what happens if some produce invasive babies

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Some of the worst invasive plants known to man LOL, though some are very attractive admittedly. Just make sure they don't escape ;)

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

Weeds, your purple ones are most likely O violacea. I have those and O stricta...everywhere!! This is what O violacea looks like as it is taking over a section of my front yard
LOL Anyone want some??

Looks like you missed one of the two I grow. Oxalis tetraphylla syn. O. deppei (Iron Cross) and O.corymbosa (syn.Oxalis debilis var. corymbosa Lourtei). Both have similar blooms which are small, pink and rise above folliage on slender stalks. Iron Cross have green 4-lobed leaves with purple centers that form a cross. Corymbosa have simple 3-lobed leaves much like clover. Here's a pic of Corymbosa:

So Daturapod, if you will............ please tell me how you came to decide you would put together this huge collection? Have you grown them before?

I am one of those that would never willingly grow these by design as the 2 kinds I have in my yard are never ever going to leave.

Stone Mountain, GA(Zone 7b)

Make sure you get some of this Oxalis, Iron Cross! It is very beautiful when in full regalia. I love them all, but I think Iron Cross is my favorite.
