Interesting!! I have a plant called Pencil plant, looks just like this one, but stays dark green. They must be in the same fammily.

Beautiful looking plant, but coloring and compact growths makes me wonder if it's a tirucalli.
Might be variant or a relative but gotta ask a few question first EveM.
Are the stems round or flattend?
Is there a texture on the stems and if what does it look like?
Are there redish tips smooth or fuzzy?
And last but not least are there small leaves on the stem ends?
I know, lots of question but would like to know.
Get a cutting ready for me if it's a tirucalli LOL.

Another name for this plant is sticks-on-fire.

Celaya, Mexico(Zone 10a)

Thanks for the info Kelli, now I know that it is the 'Sticks on fire' cultivar of tirucalli.
Always easier to find info once you know the cultivar name :).

Lakeland, FL

I have never seen a PINK pencil plant before! Mine is pure green!

Danville, IN

I bought one of these a few years ago, and it WAS small at the time. Now it's over 6' tall and mostly green, but the new growth every spring is varicolored. The trunks are getting pretty thick too. I think it's just a variety of pencil plant.

Scottsdale, AZ

I just noticed this same plant is outgrowing its current container. How can I transplant it now that it is so big?

El Cajon, CA

Plant it in the ground and protect it from freezing.
The plants on the photo are growing in the Old World Garden of (former) Wild Animal Park near Escondido, CA.
