can you see the brugs?

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

OK,got over 2 feet yesterday on top of what we already had......you can see where I started digging the snow away from the GH,then I figured I should take a picture......

It was pressing in so bad and blocking all the light.......
the poor brugs were in the shade, not that there was much light.......

and its still snowing

Bet you are ready for spring? That's a LOT of snow!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

It is amazing that plastic can keep that GH warm against all that snow. I would think it would cost a fortune to keep it heated. Mabybe we all need to build those to use as our secure rooms instead of ducktape and plastic in our houses.

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Why do you scoop the snow away? It is a good insulator?
TLC

That's an awful lot of snow CC. Keep warm and good luck with the brugs.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Its blocking the light, and collapsing the sides,it had 2 layers of plastic with air blown between them with a fan. When the snow is that high, and pressing in it collapses the layers and then the snow is whats next to the plants, not the layer or air.......

Oh dear, what are you going to do?

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Wow CC! You did get hit hard. I have the same problem. After it slides off the GH it builds up and pushes in the plastic. Be real careful with the shovel. I almost made a hole in mine last year.

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Oh, I see.

When it was below zero here-looked at the thermometer and it said 25 degrees (it has a long wire that goes outside) and I was thinking - the thermometer is broken! But upon checking - the wire was under about 8 inches of snow. As soon as the wire was moved to where it should be - it started measuring the temperature correctly.

It does insulate the ground,my ground under all that snow is NOT frozen, even though its been sub 0 temperatures, but the GH plants need light, plus the snow against the plastic eventually melts, and turns to ice, which could cut the plastic......

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Oh, good to know. Thanks

oh Karyn! I hope you can still afford to eat after heating that thing. I don't know how y'all do it.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

CC, I hope everything will be okay. I don't know what I'd do if we had that much snow. I'd stay home for sure. Hope you get a break in the weather. You and Terry have really been blasted with snow and cold this winter.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

CC . . pretty picture even though I know you must be tired of snow by now.

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

CC, my thoughts are with you...I do know that much snow from Germany. Its terrible for such a GH.
Terry same for you..

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Large bubble isolation plastic isolates better.

CC it is just as bad here. We have an siberian (alaska) freeze at the moment and no end of it in sight. Yes, snow on the weekend!

Coal Center, PA(Zone 6a)

NO, can't see the brugs! ...LOL
Karyn, you did get hammered )o: Hope all inside is ok.

I did not get that much this time. But it has snowed darn near every day here since beginning November.
I have had enough!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

We are supposed to have an ice storm tomorrow and then snow on top of it. They said 1/4 to 1/2 inch of ice. That doesn't sound good.

Monika, I put the bubble insulation up today, well most of it. I have to have help with the part under the shelves that are attached to the walls. It got so hot in there that I had to open the window and door on the ends. I hope it will keep the heat in at night as well.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

I hope you're going to show us a picture of it brugie. This is the same stuff that Monika recommended last year?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

It is probably the same thing. Large bubbles and very clear. I can read through it. It would be hard to take a picture of the inside of my greenhouse. I'm talking small here. Too small. I can only get about 22 flats of flowers in it. The size is about 8X10 foot. It was just fine until I found the world of brugs.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Got another 8 inches today.....

I will trade snow for tropicals...

Warning...it can become invasive......

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

LOl,I was watching Moths fly by the window tonight, spring is close!we need rain bad 16 inches below normal.
Deal 3 Alocasias for 3 inches of rain!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

If you'll take the rain in a frozen form ya got a deal!

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Are you talking about bubblewrap? for shipping? I guess that could make good insulation.....

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Woodspirit, the bubble wrap for greenhouse insulation has big bubbles and is so clear you can read through it. Not at all the same as the kind we ship things with.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

The bubble isolation plastic is UV - stabilized. It will last for many years and even longer, when it is taken off during the summer.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Monika, I'm going to leave mine up and just shade the greenhouse with shade cloth during the summer. It is too much work for me as I had to cut each piece to fit between the framework. I guess I could number it and put it up again, but for me, it would just be easier to leave it up and put new up when the time comes. Who know, we may move from here and my greenhouse wouldn't go with us anyway. I know, wishful thinking. That southern weather just looks better to me every day. Especially since they are predicting 8+ inches of snow tonight. Burrrr.
