Salvaging a HD??

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

My housemate has a PC (I'm a Mac person!) that apparently has a virus that has been slowly eating her hard drive, unbeknownst to her until lately. Last time I looked, several months ago, there was a drive of about 650 MB, when she swore it should have been in the GB area. Now, it is down to 450 MB. I got her a McAfee virus disk but it says not enough disk space to complete the task. Anyone have any clues? I do PC's a bit, but naturally, better at Mac's which seldom if ever get a virus. I'd appreciate any advice. -darius
