Reliable source for Brugmansia?

(Mary) Poway, CA(Zone 10a)

Is there a reliable commercial source to obtain Brugmansia seeds or plants? I got one young plant from a local nursery. Not sure exactly what it is. The tag said "Double White". It's about 5 feet high, and the blooms are nicely fragrant at night. Would love to get some other colors and types, but don't know where. Our local nursery just doesn't carry much, which is sad since we can grow them outside all year here. (San Diego, California)

Would appreciate the advice.

Have you checked local sources in San Diego? Should be able to find some.

Also check out the Members store. Several members sell them. Calla has many listed on her store front. http://gardenwatchdog.com/c/1855/

Here is another place that I've purchased from-http://gardenwatchdog.com/c/1855/
Really like these guys- if you order, tell them Kristi sent you *grin* they send great plants.

Have fun.

this is gone2seeds site, he has wonderful plants. and is a good good guy. http://countrygdn.com/

Mary,
I know Walter Andersons there in Poway has Brugs but the only problem is they are not named just white, pink, yellow..etc.....Unless that has changed in the last year.

(Mary) Poway, CA(Zone 10a)

Thanks, Glory. Walter Anderson's is where I got my Brug. They still just label them white, yellow, pink, etc. As a matter of fact mine was just labeled as white, so I didn't even know it was going to be a double until it bloomed. Did you spend some time out here?

Thanks for the other good sites, Kristi and TiG. This website is very helpful to us new addicts just finding our way.

This is Kartuz and they have a pretty good assortment of brugs and other plants. I've had good luck with them.

geee Brugie. look at that tecoma stans on that opening page. can't help but make you smile! does anyone know if that is easy and fast to grow?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I can't grow them from seed, but I have a plant that I held over from last year. Very easy to grow in full sun.

Hi Kell,
Poway is in San Diego County - Southern California. We do get occasional light frost, but I've never lost anything to it. However, just 10 miles away from me my friends have actually lost a Brugmansia to frost. :-( The temperatures can vary quite a bit depending on whether you're in a valley or on a hill.

Mary, Mission Hills nursery and Walter Andersons nursery in San Diego sell them. Kartuz nursery in Vista also has several kinds and colors.Tropic World in Escondido might have some...not sure..been a while since I have been there.Quail Gardens sometimes sells them in their sales area.
If you can't find any at these places email me..I use to live in North Park,S.D.

Thank you Eclipse,

I went to Andersons again today. They don't label what they are, and today the plants didn't look healthy. Usually things are in better shape there. I'm going to see about going to Kartuz's next Saturday. Didn't know they existed, and so close, until today. Have been to Tropic World many times, but they didn't have theirs labeled either. I want to know what I get so I'll know the parents if I try any crosses.

Thanks everyone. I've certainly gotten some good leads to track down my "want" list.

P.S. Elipse, how could you bear to leave the climate? The traffic is another story.

Kell, tacoma stans is real easy to grow from seeds. Want some? Brugie, I am making you another tacoma stans; just coming up. I think it is too cold to get it to take from seeds in Iowa; this is really supposed to be a tropical. Kell, yours will be huge, I bet, cause they get really big in full sun.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks Roz. I try and try and they just won't make it. Renee tried some and also could not get them to grow. Now we will see if Doc Boda can get some to grow. He can grow just about anything. His temps aren't that much warmer than we are here.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

I guess I will have to try some of the seeds off mine from last year, i think mine is history. Hopefully they will come up. Brought it back from Alabama I think.

(Mary) Poway, CA(Zone 10a)

I just went to Kartuz's nursery and picked up Charles Grimaldi, Dr. Seuss, Equadoor Pink and B. Sanguinea Inca Queen rooted cuttings. Thanks for the help in finding a local source!
