A brug I cutted back below the first Y. It never will become a nice looking high tree. You dont see a Flowertwig Y, is where I cut back below. It has become a bush.

So, Tonny, what's wrong with your tree, looks good to me, lots of Y's???

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Ludger, I hope some of the trees I kept in the GH this winter will look like yours this summer and then it will have been worth it to keep it heated. With what it cost me for fuel to heat it I could have bought one each of all Monika's and your Brugs and still had money left over. LOL

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Lol Snow, you NEVER will pay for. May be one day it will become legal to present a brugtree to you. I will be the first to do.

Since I am not allowed to do so I will give you and all here all my informations to grow such a tree.

May be sometimes I am using "strong" words because I want to push you to grow and keep away " not knowers " from you.

Please, do forgive this.

GL

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

We hear you Ludger, and understand.

Snow, look at the satisfaction you get from growing your very own, isn't it worth all the money in the world, since we can't "take it with us"?

I very much appreciate Herr. Ludgers sincere care to keep you all away from "not knowers" *lol* This conveniently enough classify Herr. Ludger in the category "good growers" and that in a way that can not be questioned. Bravo for this masterpiece in semantics and implied connonation. I bow deep to you and promise to forget, that I actually cut trees below the Y and made beautiful trees. Now my knowledge is as limited as yours. Am I a "good grower" now?

Hibiscus, this tree was cut back under the Y and it became a beautiful high tree. Later the trunk put out the tree large shoots you see under the Y`ing tree.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Yes, it's well worth it only if I don't freeze to death first. Just got word from our fuel man today that kerosene that we use to heat our house and part of the GH(addition) is now up to $2.00 gal and will be even more with next delivery. :( Propane which I use as the main source of heat in the GH has gone from 1.39 to 1.56 in two weeks time and next delivery will be much higher.I'm wondering how the older folks on fixed incomes are going to handle this. Heck, I'm on a fixed income. I'm hoping for a very early spring here.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

snow, everyone is on a fixed income! gets me when they say that, we are fixed on DH's check and it's the same every time. Our propane went up too, I hope this will be our last tank, we go through 250 gallons a month during the winter here. Pitiful house!! I can do without air conditioning in the summer, but not heat in the winter!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Jesh Bonnie,I don't even use that much up here! And I'm heating the GH too......from mid November till mid January I used 320 gallons

Whata ya doing...keeping it at 80????LOL
(you know I'm just kiddin)

We locked in on a price of 1.09 on the propane......Hope they honor that........

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

no, you wouldn't believe how cold I am! it's set on 70 but I don't believe it. Our house is very very drafty. We're putting on new insulation and siding this spring so hopefully this is my last cold winter. My toes have been freezing all day. I wish we had a lock in price. It goes up the day before I get more every time.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Ours is pretty drafty too,we need new windows,I can't open the windows to shut the storm windows....LOL

We're going to re-insulate,just to beef it up.......

but I wear a sweat suit all the time, cause Chuck won't let me turn the heat up over 65......

If I sun bath when its 65 ,why does it feel cold at 65 in the house?........

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I know:) if it was 70 outside, I'd be in heaven. couldn't take 65. My toes are frozen, I've got a little heater on them, and it isn't working. I'm going to bed with my blankie. night!!

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Wear socks also!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

not allowed to wear them to bed....

he finally gave in a bought one of those dual control electric blankets........

I have it on a timer so it comes on an hour before I go to bed and goes off about 2 hours after I go to bed.....

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Ludger, I never fail to be amazed by your photos and all the neat Brugs you have! I would be thrilled with the ones you don't care for! LOL I have a question. Are those skunks in the second picture?? ;)

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Lol, no it are guinea pigs.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Whew! Wondered if you had a secret! LOL I had pet skunks several years ago when I first moved out on my own. They are actually a lot like cats.
Happy Growing :)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Tonny, what a beautiful tree! what kind is it? The leaves are so huge and deep green. So did you cut off the suckers for new plants and leave the main stalk for an alley tree?
You guys who grow these when your climates are so harsh really are impressive!

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Here is a double Peach, cut below the Y about 7 months ago.
What can I do to make it bushy, pinch the top out? Any help from Tonny or Ludger, or anyone would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Ludger, I don't know you, so maybe you can justify or explain the meaning of the statement you just made in this thread. I have to say it offended me greatly. I am not the most smartest person when it comes to hybridizing, but I am trying to learn, for the LOVE of the plant. The whole not-knowers comment is terrible. The whole idea in my eyes would be for more people to appreciate and love the beauty of this plant. I have not been one to speak out to anything that has been posted here in the past, I have asked for peace several times, but I think that the above comment would have better in your own chat room or forum which ever it is you have. The whole thing is not fair to new people on this forum, and very offensive.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Tracey, Sometimes words don't come out the way you meant them to be. Ludger is doing very well learning English but some things that are in your head can come out differently in writing.
The way I took his post was that due to his many years of growing Brugs he would share that information with ALL of us here so that we would learn the right way of growing from someone with that has had the experience.I don't think any disrespect was meant by it.

Snow, I have been in the same room as Ludger on July 5. 2003 from 10 in the morning and to somewhere in the evening. I have looked him into the eyes and heard his words on many things. TLynn is right, so spare your cheap explanations.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Thanks Tonny.

Hibiscus, sorry. If you cut it close to the base you will get several strong branches all ending up with each their Y and a real lot of flowers.

This one is not very old, but I hope it would be a good example.

TLynn...Understand that DG has many members from around the world and to many English is not their first language.

I myself can only congratulate these members for their fast learning of the english language in their efforts to join hands with other Brug lovers.

However, I find the way *YOU* speak to Ludger is offensive, not only offensive to him but to other members too!

Please show a bit more understanding and consideration when posting....that's all that's needed!

Bruno

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Well Bruno, I think Tonny and Ludger speak the same language and they seem to understand each other perfectly even if the rest of us are not quite sure about what is going on.

And Tlynn is a sweetheart and never would be offensive to me! Hi Tracey!
I felt bad also Ludger. I may not be a brug genius here either but I do not think you have to protect anyone from me..............LOL...........well maybe you do!

Oh my Goodness Tonny...that brug is gorgeous! What is it called?

So you are bucking the tide there Gloria............so you want a bush and not an alley tree? LOL. And you have such a sturdy double peach! Do you have any pics of that one? I don't think I have seen it bloom.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Well Kell, I have not seen it bloom either! I hope it is as pretty as double peach sounds like it should be.

Tonny, I would die, if I had to cut this thing off at the base! It is already promised to someone, so will let them do it! Thanks Tonny.

I think Ludger is doing ok explaining, I certainly would not speak such good english if I were German. I sometimes do not speak good english and that is my only language!

oh my Gloria..you are giving it away before you even see it flower? what a great friend you are. it will make a great alley tree, will make Monika proud! Where did you get a double peach? does anyone know if it is a stuffed or a drop skirt?

Did you plant the cuttings you took that were the Y and above? Those will form bushes I would think and bloom early also! And then you get to give your plant and have one too! LOL

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

A new alley tree? For me? I will not refuse LOL!

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Bruno, I do understand English is very hard to learn, and yes I do take into consideration word challenges. I read that the way it was posted. Strong words to keep away "not knowers" from you. I don't think there were any mistranslations of the word Chamelion do you?

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Kell: This was a cutting from my plant, I got from NH. I rooted this "tree" 7 mo. ago, it still is not forming any side branches, I was thinking of only pinching out the top and rooting that, forcing the bottom to branch out. That doesn't sound as bad of an operation! Scalpel, please.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Wait with your scalpel Hibiscus. If you want a bush, let the plant flowers (the Y has to be formed) and then root cuttings out of the flowering region to achieve early flowering plants. This goes for the next years too.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Ok, Monika, will sure give that a try, don't like any operations, with scalpels!

Maybe Ludger himself will care to be honest with us and spip the insinuations. Be a man and put names on the chamelions and the "not knowers", so we can get to the bottom of it?

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

I agree Tonny - I'd like to hear an explanation too. Most of the readers here are "not knowers" and that's why we're here to begin with.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Since I am not allowed to do so I will give you and all here all my informations to grow such a tree.

May be sometimes I am using "strong" words because I want to push you to grow and keep away " not knowers " from you.

Did it occur to anyone that he might have meant he would keep away "not knowing" from us by giving us all the information to grow such a tree. Read his post again and see which words make more sense in what he was trying to say.

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Edited out- over my head
