Hi everyone
I read the discussion yesterday and you might find this link useful
http://www.nat.uiuc.edu/energy/ec.html
You put in your weight, height, age and gender and energy levels and it calculates how many calories you need to maintain that weight. You can put in the amount you actually weigh and you will remain the same weight on those calories. If you put in your target weight, it will tell you how many calories you need for that - and if you stay below that level of calories, or on that level, you will lose weight to that level (in theory). You don't have to starve yourself!
It's right that you shouldn't go below about 1200 calories a day - your body goes into panic mode and stores everything!
Pebble - I think you're being too hard on yourself:-) Do the calculations and work out roughy what you are eating, raise it to 1200 cals or even higher, as long as it is nor more than what you need for your target weight,and you should lose weight - especially if you increase your exercise and stick to fruit, vegetables and complex carbohydrates and stay low fat (below 40g a day) - get into the habit of reading packets and don't buy anything with more than 40g a serving (40 g is just under 1.5 oz;
Oil (inc. olive oil is 18g fat per tablespoon and why salads can be high in fat; butter has 12 g fat per tbsp, but most fruit and vegetables are less than 0.1 g per 3.5 oz serving. Avoid baked goods (full of fat). Convince yourself that the best dessert is a piece of fruit (that portion of whipped cream has 30 g fat per portion!).
Alcohol isn't so high in calories but is also empty of nutrients and fills you with sugar instead of healthy nutrients.It can unbalance a low calorie (min 1200 calorie)diet.
As far as I know Psilo is feeling much better. Well done Psilo
Sorry about the typing erros above (brackets where they shouldn't be) - the site has gone funny on me and won't let me go back and change or add anything! I think I pressed my right button by mistake!
