A question about Harenhauser Garten

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Just curious if anyone in the states has gotten this to bloom for them?

LOL - are you going to keep us informed as we creep toward the magic 12 hours of daylight? I hope so - it'd be like New Years.

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

You bet Liz! I check my good old Farmers Almanc every day. With each minute of daylight we gain, I become a kinder and gentler person-LOL..... Can you tell I don't like winter?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I had two flushes of buds, but I think the heat may have affected the first flush and the second flush was just ready, within a week, to open when they had to come in due to the cold. They all dropped off. If I don't get results this year, I'm dumping it. The mother plant has died back and is now getting some new growth from the soil line. It will be like starting over again now.

Brugie, I would love to try HG if you are going to give up on it! Maybe it would bloom here in zone 7 with a longer growing season before the frost? Thanks, John

Kristi,
I have had so may flushes now I quit counting. LOL I think my plant is two or three years old and heavens knows our growing season is long but still no flowers. I will not give up on it. My next plan of attack will be to feed it nothing but Super Bloom...maybe that will help.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

John, even if I keep the plant, I'll have cutting material next fall. Email me then if you still want a start of this one. I usually start taking cuttings in early to mid September.

Dripping Springs, TX

yoo whoo Gloria your gonna have mail?

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

I just wondered why SO many people are wanting this one. I'm all for a challenge, but I don't know of one person in the states that has been succesful with getting this to bloom.
I suppose if you have the space it wouldn't matter to have one extra plant. I'm short on space, as nice as this plant looks in pictures I can't justify taking up valuable growing space- either indoors or out to baby it to bloom.
There was a time however, when this one was on the 'most wanted' list LOL....

Kristi-- I just want to keep some of brugs alive! I think I should change my screen name to Brug-a-nator.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I think Eric had this one bloom for him but not a lot. He got rid of it for some reason. Arlene probably remembers more about it. I like a challenge too, but this one might not continue much longer.

"down the Shore", NJ(Zone 7a)

Thanks, Brugie, I'll make a note of it. Hope to have something good to trade by then! John

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Yes, Ms Brugie, Eric had his bloom. he SHOVEL PRUNED at least one large one, and i think more, because he couldn't get it to set seeds. A man of true principle, my hero. (lol.... listening to the gasps).... I'll follow his lead this year if mine doesn't do better.

"down the Shore", NJ(Zone 7a)

sometimes lots of patience is required, and many crosses made before seeds will set; it does not mean a cross is impossible... my hero is Sam Norris, who spent ten years and thousands of crosses before he successfully made the wide cross of Belamcanda x Pardanthopsis to produce Pardancanda...

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Mine appears to be history. It withered to nothing. Also no improvement with the 2 Snowbanks I have. Strange because everything else is thriving.

I'm wondering how slow of a grower the Snowbank really is? No matter how slow it is mine is doing great. Here is a picture that I took of it yesterday.

As far as HG goes...I have lots of room and I'm going to keep it less one of us dies....me or HG. LOL

Lovely photo Glory! Desert_rose, I'm also killing my fair share of brugmansias this winter- your not alone. I managed to kill of a Creamsickle (wahhh) I think I babied that cutting to much! The first cutting I ever REALLY tried hard with. I'm convinced that I should have just left her alone!

Hey on a bright note- I have a whole yard full of Robins! They just got here. Does this mean spring is around the corner?

((HUGS))

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Gloria, your Snowbank looks just great. I'm getting ready to set up a new light and hopefully mine will snap out of it. This has been such a strange winter. Not a lot of sun, too much cold, no moisture....I'm concerned what spring will bring now.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Glory, yours' is the best one I have seen, or heard about that is going strong. Most of the friends I know are having trouble with it. Leaves shriveling and falling.

Hey, you are stronger than any plant, aren't you? Got a lot of years left yet!

Hibiscus,
Not sure about the lot of years let but I'm sure am going to hang in here as long as possible. LOL

S.
Mine is in the gh and the gh has a 60% shade cloth over it so the only light it gets comes through that shade cloth. Maybe it's that VH11 food Roz gave me...it beats me. I'll have to wait and see how it does in our heat. Everytime I pass it I think of Tracey and her kindness.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I've tried to find the VH11 food, but can't find a place where I can order it online. Guess I'll just stick to Peters and Miracle Grow. Tracey was so nice to give so many plants to us. I hope I can find a great brug to give her in return.

S,
I'll see If Roz has the online address for the VH11.

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Sorry,

what is VH11? It is better than miracle grow?

GL

Ludger,
It's a clear liquid fertilizer that Roz ordered from a lady in CA....my Brugs seem to like it a lot. You know I should have done a test using the VH11 verses Peters(20-20-20) but I didn't.

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Thank you Glory.
I very hope I can improve my english very soon...smile.

I could tell stories about planting tulips next to Atlanta. I only used a handfull dirt from woodsoil from forests.Or some compost.

After a year people phoned me and asked what I did with the tulips or lilies, all were flowering.

A good fertilizer is very ok but also you will need a good soil for the roots ( wood-, forestsoil with much old leaves)

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Ludger, old leaves laying on top and rotting down, makes for beautiful brown/black dirt, very good for growing plants.

Glory: I also would like to know what VH11 is, ratio of what + what. Thanks.

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Thank you very much Hibiscus,

I would like to use english words like you do,lol.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Kell sent me the web site for the lady with the VH11 and it told where it was carried (stores). I have not been able to find any that will sell it on line yet. Would appreciate finding the right place to go. Thanks Glory.

Here is the email address of the VH11 for anyone interested.

Montgomery, AL(Zone 8a)

Charley's Greenhouse & Garden Supply carries it. They are in the Garden Watchdog. http://www.charleysgreenhouse.com/catalog/index.cfm?page=_ProductDetails&ProductID=7113

Dripping Springs, TX

go to the website www.vf-11plantfood.com And scroll to the bottom of the WS and call Eleanor directly she has a 1-800 #
You can order a sample from her directly.

I called her yesterday. She is very knowledgable about her product and sweet. Thanks Glory and Roz for the VF-11 info!

I love anything that works and is organic!

I think I made a boo boo..it VF11 not VH11...sorry!!!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

You watch VH1 too much.........

or is it VH

never mind...LOL

... as long as the plants grow its sure okay. I would even stuff some VH in the pots if that could help them *lol* Is 20 for phosphorous not poisonous for the plants by causing decrease in other nutrients? Maybe a bit like when we lack vitamin D we can not absorb calcium and magnesium if we ate truckloads of the stuff? I remember too much magnesium in plants cause decrease in calcium.

Ludger you are funny! I'm down to "earth", I like rich brown/black dirt, sure makes them grow. 'Course, a little fertilizer helps too. Yikes! not VH ... but VF11.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

i wonder if it is made with worm castings. she says not to bother adding enrichments to soil...lolololol..... she hasn't seen my sand, the vf11 would run through it in a couple of days. i can't grow morning glories without enriching the soil, no kidding. you guys will have to let me know how it does, it'd take a couple of hundred bucks the first treatment and i don't do liquids anyway.
