I am not an expert with houseplants; I am familiar with a lot though. For my money, Dracaena 'Janet Craig' is one tough plant. 'Janet' can survive in the lowest of light conditions. Will not croak if left without water for a time. Fairly resistant to insect and disease. I vote for D. 'Janet Craig' as one tough houseplant. Any plant as tough or tougher, in you opinion or observation?
All time indoor plant for abuse
Golddog, I so agree. I placed Janet in a public building where I had difficulty with even the famous closet plant, aglaonema. That was before I was diagnosed with cancer, and I was subsequently forced to leave the poor plants to more or less fend for themselves, with an occasional watering from some sympathetic employee. Almost everything else croaked, but the JCs just kept right on living. One actually grew about two feet in the six months I was away. I am also devoted to plain old ficus benjamina and some rubber plants and philodendrons of various types. This building has tinted windows, solar screens and cheapskate lighting, so only a real tropical can thrive there. Those made it, but I was told they were sad looking until I returned to bestow tons of affection on them.
