I am reading it is phytotoxic to many plants, including tomatoes. But it is also supposed to be effective for systemic aphid control, and is easy to purchase.
Thanks, Dennis
Does anyone use dimethoate on their brugs?
Have you found out Dennis if it's a property of Lagon 2E?
I wonder if it's the same as Ortho Cygon?
Dimethoate is the active ingredient, Lagon and Cygon are trade names, and I think ortho is a brand.
While shopping for systemics at the local supplier they brought me out a wettable powder with active ingredient pirimicarb.
I didn't buy it, it was $85, and I knew nothing about it. My pesticide manual says it only kills aphids. Anyone try this? Also it is not phytotoxic, which dimethoate may be.
Pirimicarb kills only aphids. Pyrethrum helps also with White Fly and spider mites but not as good as a specific acarizide. Imidacloprid is the best at the moment as it also works systemic. I used dimethoate over a long period of time without problems but it is only a contact insecticide.
The imidacloprid has been banned here, until next year. It is nice to hear dimethoate does not kill brugs. I had read wrong, I thought it was systemic. That is too bad it isn't! Hopefully we can find another systemic chemical, I will look up acarizides, maybe another is avalable.
Thanks!
Why is it banned?
I was told that it has been taken off of the market until further notice. They said that a similar formulation was coming within a year.
They had cases of it in that storage, but would not sell it.
I read on the internet that it is highly toxic to bees, and can kill bees from residual activity in the soil from a previous year. It goes from the soil into the flower and kills bees.
I can't confirm this is true, it was just on a website on chemicals.
