Oh my! I just heard the weather and Georgia and several other southern states are supposed to go down to single digits tonight. We're used to extreme cold up here but this is just toooooo cold for the southern states. Cover up your plants guys and maybe bring in what you can.Hopefully the weather reports are wrong as they are lots of times.
Get the sheets out!!!!!
I actually snowed in Savannah GA today! Can't remember when that happend last. It's about 30 now and dropping. The wind is making it really bad. The only thing blooming here now is Pansies and Camellias. The Pansies should be okay, but all the flowers and bigger buds on the Camellias will get nipped.
Isn't this just horrible weather. I feel bad for these states that usually avoid this type of cold fronts. The damage can be so bad. My MIL lives in Melbourne Beach Fl. she's brought in all of her orchids and other tender plants.
How's your GH temps holding? We are going down to some record lows tonight. Come on spring.....
Keep warm everyone! Kristi
Yes it is colder than usual for us. Low 20's tonight and usually we do not get into the 20's and if we do, it is in Feb and then only for a couple nights. It makes me wonder how cold it will get in Feb. Hope everyone stays warm and all plants are safe.
I'm shutting off half of the GH tomorrow. With -15 temps it's too hard to keep all 35 ft heated.
Snow,
How are you going to close off have of the gh?
are you going to be able to scrunch them closer to get them all in??
My Godness,
this are such bad news from all of you.
I hope the best for all of you and your plants and pets.
I very hope you will keep it all save.
GL
I still have the frame of the old GH in the middle of the GH. I'll just put plastic back on it and the old door back on. It will be the same as my GH before the extension was added on.It's costing over $300.00 a month to keep it heated right now!
Yes tiG, I will have room to fit them all in. It'll just be a mess for awhile but that's better than losing any Brugs. The weather here isn't supposed to change for awhile. I'm really living up to my name now as it is too cold to even go to the mailbox.
I am in East Tennessee and we are setting records. Two big snow falls in one week, and the temperatures tonight are supposed to reach 5 degrees, with a wind chill of -15.
Snow,
It's so sweet of you to think about the southerners being cold. I feel so guilty when I gripe about the cold, knowing how cold y'all get. It's been in the low teens here all day, we usually only get temps like that for a short time in the middle of the coldest nights. It will get even colder tonight. The weatherman said that we haven't been this cold since the beginning of March. Everything has been in the house for a couple of months, but I'm still so cold that I'm wearing thermals in the house! Stay warm, everybody, and your little plants, too!
We had wind chills here in Iowa last night of -30 F below witha real temp of -9 F. BBBR! But into the 40-50's next monday thru next week..Yea!! :-)
bbrr is right. Snow, hope all those brugs make it fine, you had beauties last year, can't wait to see what you and the rest come up with this year with your head stat.
we have our first freeze warning this year and it is suppose drop down to mid 20's here in Tampa....BRRRRR! They said it hasn't been this cold in over 7 years!
We are having record lows here too, and it is so dry that everytime you move you get shocked. On the up side Monday will be about 45 and Tuesday 50, now if it will just stay for a while.
Oh Snow that is outragious. DH would tell me it would be cheaper to just buy new plants in spring. So far my light bill has only gone up 25 dollars using the electric heater and also running house heater but we have not had much cold until now. Last night has been the worse for us getting down to 18 1/2 with a windchill in the single digits.
On our TV, they named it record temp. of -40°C. BRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, just thinking of it!
I covered mine up and my brugs still got hit it was only 31 here but the wind did the damage think that it just brunt the leaves hopely they'll come back
