jenks did you put the stem side down? and how did you know when to cut the bulb off the plant?

I picked it off the plant at a tour of some gardens I was going through.....So I did not know what the heck I was doing! I just picked it. Unfortuneately, I have moved since and the plant is at my old house....D'ya have some? :D I'd love to do it again....I am pretty sure I put the stem side to the side as I was not sure which direction it should go.....
